HELP! CV Problem?

Noticed something on the side of my frame on the drivers side. Got under the truck and found this.[/ATTACH][/ATTACH]
I'm guessing it is the CV. I didn't hear anything happen while driving thats why it threw me off. Any help please?

CV Boot. Are the lobes always touching like that? They can rub holes into themselves. Search 'boot stretch' if that's the case. Sometimes they get torn or wear, I'm not saying that's the only hole making possibility.

Yup. Boot is torn. If they are original, I would go ahead and replace both sides and reboot the old ones for trail spares. That is what I did when my boots tore after I installed my lift.

The boots on the CVs are worn to where the stock suspension sits. After you lift it, it changes where the boots flex and wear so they are more prone to break in that spot. It happens.

Thanks for the help guys. I lifted it in Nov. and have kept a close eye on them since. I never saw any leaks and they seemed to be in good shape. And then all of a sudden I find this. Oh well, guess it will be a good time to go ahead and replace some lbjs too.

Wow cordrayj1 they should be ok, just put some duck tape on it.

I've pretty much decided to go with the OEM Toyota Boot kit and replace all four. Getting new LBJs and bolts from the dealer to knock those out as well.

Anyone have experience with any other aftermarket boots, long travel, etc.?

Little late to the party. For what it's worth, I'm dealing with the same issue. DirtDawg runs long travel inner and outer boots. He posted the same above link for inners http://www.offroadsolutions.com/prod...inner-cv-boot/
and this for outers https://www.allprooffroad.com/9504frontsuspension/282. After price comparison and some more research, I went with CVJ Axles, Inc. in Denver. They had really good reviews and great customer service. It was gonna be about $220-$230 for all the long travel boots. Re-manned Toyota axles with brand new boots (including long travel inners) installed was $260 + cores.

They were like 30 something a kit from the dealer. Both boots, new clamps, and grease. You need 2 kits to do both sides.
