Help deciding on slim bumper or hidden hitch

Hello,

I have a 2018 OR without KDSS and I need some help deciding on front recovery option.
I don't plan to go on black or diamond trails but I want to have some sort of front recovery solution.
I'm looking at slim front bumpers vs hidden hitch.
- the weight difference: hidden hitch is lighter
- front protection: slim bumper
- cost difference: not much between some slim bumpers and hidden hitch
- hitch clutch access: slim bumper

I've seen that WARN has a hand held hitch and in other posts I've seen that a come along is recommended for light trail :crutch:.

Any second thoughts from those that have slim bumper or hidden hitch?

I think you're meaning "winch" not hitch, but I'm not sure. Do you want to have a winch or just something on the front to hook a tow strap to?

If you just want to attach a tow strap - use the OEM tow hooks. If you want a winch, I would suggest going with a slimline bumper. I have a hidden winch mount. Works great. If I were doing it again I'd probably go for a partial bumper for extra protection from rocks and such.

For something short of a full winch, I think this is more useful than a hand winch/comealong. Should hook up pretty easily to your front tow hooks and get you out of most mild offroad stuck conditions. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0166H2WF...locphy=9060400&hvtargid=pla-385724589595&th=1

The camping trail that we frequent doesn’t really require a winch except in rare instances where the rain comes in and the mud gets bad.. even then, there are just a couple of spots that it can be messy..

As the need for a winch would be rare, I carry a hilift extreme, winch kit, 100’ of synthetic winch extension and 30’ of transport chain.

This last camping trip had some bad rain, and I started to think again about getting a real winch. I’m in the process of getting a hidden which mount and a Warn winch. Yes, the slim bumpers may offer a little more protection, but again the trail I frequent wouldn’t need it..

Then I hear about some guys that still carry a winch kit as a backup if their winch fails... lol... may as well just stay with my emergency winch and save the $$ lol...
