HELP! Disturbing noise at start up!

I have a 03 V6 w 111,000 miles. The last couple days in the morning ive started up the 4runner to warm it up in Southern California weather, 60 degrees..

The last couple of times ive started it up, it sounds like im starting up a diesel truck or something! And it only makes this noise for abou 3-5 seconds.

I havent gotten my 100,000 mile service yet.

Any ideas on what it could be??? My buddy said it could be a servantine belt? I have no idea. Its drives normally, and I think there might be a little more engine noise than usual. Anyone else ever have this experience?

How does the belt look? Mine was replaced at 74600 miles by the dealer. If yours has not been replaced, you will definitley want to get it done.

Could be the timing chain tensioner. It uses oil pressure to push the tensioner against the timing chain to maintain the proper tension. The tensioner may be going bad or it is not getting enough oil quick enough when you first start up the engine. The noise is the timing chain hitting the inside of the timing cover or the chain guides. Not sure if that is the problem, just a thought based on your description.
