help,drivers rear wheel locks up in snow

Hi,

my first winter with my 4runner. i have a 2000 4x4 v6 sr5 . i used it in 4x4 in the summer camping no problem. however this is my first time in the snow with it.... this is what happens...

while stopped at a light in 4x4 and the roads are semi snow packed i'll move forward ( slowly,the tires may slip a bit) when light turns green and my drivers side rear wheel locks up and i'm going sideways. i put in park, reverse, park, put the stick shift into 2wd ,than back to 4wd and it unlocks and i can go along with the cars behind me. this has happened 3 times in one week ,once was in a parking lot pulling out of a parking spot, same mushy snow packed road...

i went to a parking lot and tried to make it do it again and it doesn't.... all my wheels turn....

help, what's going on?

Your brakes may be sticking due to a bad wheel cylinder or axle seal. Both pretty easy and cheap to fix. I just did a wheel cyliner for $20.00 and an axle seal for $6.00.

UPDATE...


I tried again at a parking lot in 2 wheel drive.... the back left wheel spins the other is locked(opposite wheel though). ... this is in compacked snow... not ice....

so I think you're right...
