UPDATE :
from the info. below.
I have installed the daystar 2.5 spacer to the front
I have then set the rear factory air to HIGH
I then turned off vehicle and pulled the 10a fuse from engine compartment box for the rear air
turn back on and drive , hits the 19mph and the indicator light still triggers a drop to the neutral setting BUT the vehicle does not lower , it remains at the high setting height
it holds pressure , handles beautifully , levels perfectly
the only issue is the blinking off light on the indicator because I pulled the fuse and the fact that the self levelling tothe new height is disabled because of the pulled fuse .. but I have a nice lifted ride with no ugly rake , so far .. no ill effects with this method (keep in mind that I have a perfectly functioning rear air susp. and xreas to begin with)
when it warms up or I get access to a warm shop I will put the fuse back in and do the sensor adjustment for rear air on the rear end so that I accomplish the exact same ride AND maintain my self-levelling (but levelling to the new increased height I gain by lengthening the sensors a 1/4 inch or so depending on my measure tests of the wheel well height vs sensor length)
many have state "don't pull the fuse" or "the rear goes crazy with any spacer in the font over .5 inch " but this is certainly not what is happening in my case
so far , a working rear air suspension fooled to two inches higher permanently via the pulled fuse or sensor adjust seems to work beautifully and provide a simple solution to lifting the 4R with factory rear air
I am still open to anyone explaining why this is "not a good idea" ???? The rear air system easily handles the 4R and is over-engineered given that is the highest available towing option for the 4R. IMO and testing , there is far less load an no ill effect compared to having a trailer load or extreme eight on the hitch from the simple, mild 2 inch growth in the bag that is already inflated on a permanent basis. In fact , with some testing I can also say that the factory bag can still go up an additional four inches more and still does not seem to be maxxed. That said I would NEVER expect to run the bags 6inch above neutral engineered height , I am just saying that they can and therefore I do not expect much extra stress on the system from taking the extra two inch , any different than any rear airbag "helper" taking up the slack from a heavy load.
05 v8 w/ xreas and factory airbag rear susp.
ok , i have the factory air bags in the back . I added a daystar to the front so now i still need couple of inches in the rear but just realized the rear ,with air ,has no rear coil and only the rear airbag. the airbag setting on HIGH is exactly the height i need BUT there is a sensor that automatically lowers it back to neutral setting when you reach about 30mph so it works great only for crawlnig. I want it at this hight all the time, was thinking :
1) can i put a spacer under the airbag base so that my neutral setting was actually the couple inches higher than normal that i need ?
2) can i set to high and then pull the system fuse for the air so that it holds that height or will it drop it back to neutral (or even lower)
3) can the height snsor be programmed higher ( I see some suggestions on here but no real answers or posts fm. those that have done so)
4) think I can set to HIGH setting and then cut the sensor wire (??) that sends the signal to lower to neutral from the source (speedo) so it "locks" in HIGH setting
anyone here worked through the rear airbag system in order to lift the rear end to match up with a front coil spacer lift
I just did a solo front end lift with the spacers at -20 in the snow outside successfully and did not kill any xreas , abs, traction control , or brake lines. I am pretty beat up. Hoping i can get a break with a success story on the sugestions above or any other way someone has worked around this.
I worked through the xreas issues successfully.
any suggestions or real working solutions for the rear air would be sweet.
