Help! Faint Grinding Noise in 4th gear '93 4Runner

Hi All,

Greetings from Australia. I've just bought a 93 4Runner. My first 4WD. It's done about 105,000 Km (63K miles). Apparently the lady who owned it, drove it to the supermarket and back with not a lot of off roading.

I've had the car inspected by Toyota. I've spent about $1400 on changing the Timing Belt, Drive Belts and the Water pump (apparently had a leak)

Toyota have ironed out most of the issues except a faint grinding noise in the 4th gear (3.0L V6 Manual). Before I had it serviced by Toyota the noise was a lot worse. Toyota now tell me that they can't do much about it.

Has anyone of you had a similar problem ? Any pointers, tips and suggestions is gladly appreciated.

I've got a severe grinding in every gear (though a lot quieter in 4th)... So my problem is a bit different. Could be a bad bearing or synchronizer... I assume you've had the transmission oil checked?

Actually, that's a good point. I don't think I asked Toyota to check the Transmission Fluid. You'd expect they would have replaced it at a 100k service wouldn't you ? Worth an ask I reckon.
