Help finding tires

I need help finding a set of tires to go on my 2wd 4runner. Only a few requirements:

- All Terrain style
- Relatively inexspensive
- 33 inch tire to fit 16 inch wheels

I use a somewhat local tire chain. Makes warranty claim and repairs easy. Ask your trusted local dealer what they recommend. Without knowing where you live and how you use the vehicle makes everything guess work.

I would echo what others have said. Just shop around your local respected tire shops. Pick out the ones that speak to you. Make sure to pay the little extra for road hazard and scheduled rotate and balancing.

I think all of us (at one point or another) have had the same question as you. I have "experimented" with different tires and always come back to Michelin. YES, they are pricey but at Costco, you can find them with a $70 off coupon from time to time. Also, you get every penny back with their ride, their handling and their durability. I got over 90K miles out of a set of Michelin AT2's (All terrain) and they still had another 10K-15K miles left on them when I bought a new set. (The Alabama sun had started to dry rot the side walls and that was the only reason I got a new set).

I once made the mistake of buying "inexpensive" Dunlop tires and they did not even last 24K. The company should change the name to "Doneflopped". So, the money I "saved" was a waste.

I run the standard size tire on my rig. If you are looking for something bigger, that changes the game. With Michelin, I have not only been able to drive longer and farther but the ride improved and the gas mileage has been good.

I go to the local salvage yard for tires. Takes some looking and usually a couple of trips by. They sell sets of 4 truck tires for 200.00. You just have to be patient. I picked up 4 for my 4runner and 4 for my BMW recently.

For the price you really cannot shake a stick at the General Grabber AT2 tires. I am running the 265/75/16 (32.7" if I remember correct?) They are awesome, rugged, have stood up to everything I have thrown at them. It was about 5 or 600 for 4? I really can't imagine running anything else for the cost.

I'm very happy with the Micheline Defenders I put on a year and a half ago. Nice riding tire.

I would say to do a bit more research. Putting 33" tires on will cause other issues depending on your wheel specs (like backspacing). Make sure you want to open that can before pulling the trigger.
