I want to put the FJ supercharger in my 05 runner 4.0 V6 but i heard there are a few mods that need to be done. Has anyone completed this mod? I tried to call a local shop but they said my truck would be a guinea pig cause they have never done it before. I said f*ck that!! I hope someone can help me out....I heard that the ECU on the runner can't read the output of the supercarger. I read somewhere that the AFC is the remedy. Is there any truth to this? Someone please help me out!! Thanks guys!!

From some research a while ago, I remember that someone was saying that some parts needed to be custom-mounted, because there was no individual fit kit for the 4Runner. The Taco and FJ have a slightly different engine bay than we do, so your mileage may vary.
URD also sells a engine management chip, called the APR X-1 which I think has boost control settings, and can be purchased and tuned for the 4Runner. You could inquire URD itself for some info, I know they have been working with superchargers for the 4Runner 4.0 V6 for some time now.

A TRD supercharger will fit with NO modification with the fj fit kit. The ECU can be read but the way it's mounted is slightly different than from a taco or an FJ. I ran into that problem when putting on my apr x1. I had to trim the interior panel a bit to make it fit. As of right now the apr x1 is outta stock and will be for some time. the apr x1 is the ONLY ecu that should be used with any supercharger be it URD/TRD. reason is that there is much more control in tuning and it just runs better. there are some mods you should consider before adding a supercharger like the urd fuel pump and long tube headers to keep the egt's down plus a valve body upgrade to keep the trans happy. The dyno is a dastek and they normally report a gestimate crank HP that is why the numbers are so high.

Holy $#!T, a 400hp 4runner!?! They should come from the factory like that.

No he has the auto. He just shifts it manual, like I do. It really wound't do anything by switching ecu's. its how their mounted thats. If you look under the dash on both the 4runner and FJ on the passenger side (ecu location) you'll see a big difference between the two. I had to trim my footwell panel a tiny bit to make my APR ecu fit. Its not really 400 hp more like 330 or 340 tops.

I've posted before and I'll post again; why there's no TRD fit-kit/ECU package for the '03-'09 4Runner 4.0L is puzzling. If there was, I'd put away some funds every month for it. (TRD/Toyota doesn't want my money?)
All questions aside, the 4Runner's a better, lower, more aerodynamic platform for something like a supercharger anyway than the Tacoma or FJ.

...it's a conspiracy; a supercharged 4.0L would steal too much thunder from the V8.

think of it like this, the t4r had a V8 option while the other two didn't. You can put it on with no problems they might not warranty it though. URD has a supercharger out already for the t4r and its a beast too. aero wise, I think the 4runner is the best looking of the 3 but its not really any "better" than other two.

The URD Supercharger kit is done. We are just waiting on some of the production parts to come in and we will be ready to ship. The vid is from the stage 1 system. That is the supercharger kit on a completely stock truck with a stock exhaust system. Very good power and completely silent.

Thats an awesome system Gadget. Have you tried different size pulleys yet? Oh have you tried that new air intake from your X and FJ on the 4runner yet?

Forget "better". Being lower and less boxy than the FJ and, with the four-link rear, boxed frame and stiff body, more agile than the Tacoma, the 4Runner's an "ideal" platform for the supercharger.

I know this post was a long time ago but I am currently looking to tune my 4th gen after some upgrades: JBA Long Headers, AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake, & Magnaflow Muffler 18".
I talked to a very crediable Tuning shop in SoCal (Church Automotive Tuning) and they recommended getting either the GReddy Chip or UniChip to tune. I have been searching for weeks trying to find this solution. You have to order the Chip WITH Map Mods so they can tune it properly. I will post photos and updates once I receive the tuning chip and completed the dyno tuning! Also, I am open to suggestions and or references from anyone who has gone through this! Thanks!
