Help Gas Tank Is Leaking

I have 1995 4 runner, with a leakie gas tank ,I have taken off gas tank sheild, and removed the bolts holding gas tank up there were 6 of them. also unpluged the elect.pump., took the supply and return lines off ,but cannot get to the pipe that you put gas into the tank,I need to remove this pipe at the tank to get the tank to drop.Anyone done this before? Thanks for any help. I,am stuck on this!

Not sure about your 95, but on the 80's models there are 3 bolts holding the filler neck to the body (you can see them when you open the little door).
Remove them and the filler neck/hose should come down with the tank.

I had to replace my tank as well on a 90. There is a small access panel under the rear seat on the passenger side which should give you just enough access to the cable clamp on the filler hose to get it off. Of course, I did not find this panel until I got the tank off by disconnecting the filler hose from the body.

Also while you are in there. Replace the gas lines and remove rust from the frame and give it a good undercoating. If you do not do that when replacing the tank, it will never get done and there is surely quite a bit of rust up there if your tank is leaking.

gas tank under pressure?

We have a visible gas leak coming form the tank area that begins with the starting of the engine. Is the tank supposed to be under this pressure?

It seems like from what I've read that the tank itself should not be under this amount of pressure. We stated smelling gas two days ago, but oddly the truck was running better than it normally does. (normal: offensive gas mileage, no power, knocking, ticking) yesterday however was had a full gas breach from the tank.

I feel like the tank visually in good condition, no rust, and the cage is in tact, seems odd that it could have a leak in the tank itself and that this pressure issue may have had or is a contributing factor in whatever has failed.

From the tank "area"? How do you know that's coming from the tank, and not a fuel line?

I Don't know for sure. The only way I can see to tell is to drop the tank. The gas runs from the top rare of the tank nd drips down on the lower right rear side of the tank seam.
