I don't mean to be rude, but are you kidding me!? Not you personally, but this program. You're telling me we have a National Defense Budget of close to 700 billion dollars, one of the most technologically advanced, expensive armies in the world, and we can't get our troops all the f*in PIAA's that they can handle?!

I have a hard time getting our supply to buy stinkin MAP PENS. Our HMMWV's have absolutely crap lights (old sealed bulb type) that are put to shame by a modern LED Surefire flashlight (105 lumen Scout model, not some uber-exotic piece) and burn out literally every 6 months.

i would also add that our older vehicles are garbage troops using them did often do some extreme modifications to survive and get the job accomplished. but our new MRAPS and MATVs, are great at what they are designed to do, have great lighting systems, as well as a variety of countermeasures to find and detonate IEDs, and i never feel unsafe whe riding in them when they are used for the correct purposes...obviously i dont wann ever take a blast in a MATV but thats another story for a diff thread...

Lighting isn't a problem like other members here have said.

Plus, new models are being sent with LED light kits (Like the ASV above). Not sure if it's a great idea though, they make you stand out among other night traffic a great deal more. You'll find often that NVG's and IR are more preferred.

most of the vehicles over here in afghanistan have the LEDs now...even the old humvees. naturally, if you are at a blackout locations they will not be used at night, but in the places where light is authorized they work really well. most "presence patrols" and night ops are all conducted by NVG or IR anyway....doesn't make sense to advertise you're around any more than the truck engine does...especially when you own the night...

good topic as well...i would have to say the LEDs are badass. for as bright as they are, i believe they keep people safer in those areas where lights are needed. just being as bright as they are make people slow down and take their time, and yield to the bigger vehicles passing on the base and post roads. i think anyone who ha sever traversed the roads of nay of the massive installations anywhere in the world knows what i mean...
