HELP! Ive confused myself!

ok, so Im trying to get a bit of things done to my runner and have a lot of questions that Id like help with. All the research Ive done, I feel like Ive seen conflicting answers or Ive just read so much stuff my brain is mush.

either way, this is what Id like to do....

1-2" of lift up front
2-3" of lift in the rear
Toyota Tundra/Sequioa (sp?) wheels (about to bid on some on ebay, they are 5 star, 10 spoke wheels)
Tundra 231MM brake upgrade (already have)
275-285/70/17 BFG ATs or........ open to suggestions. Ive just had good luck with these

the thing is this, whats the best option for my lift? Ive seen OME, Tundra, FJ, and other companies and I cant figure out what to go with. My off-roading will consist of mild trails, nothing crazy at all. I guess its mostly for asthetics, but it does/will see off-road duty. Everywhere I go though, there isnt a whole lot that I have to avoid on the stock setup but Id like to not have to watch all my jeep buddies and actually participate

Vehicle is a 98 Limited

Also, what other things will I run into? Im trying to do this on about a 1500-1700 dollar budget (is that even possible?) I should be getting the rims for about 350 shipped, leaving about 12-1400 left. Ive found a few sets of mildly used ATs on craigslist for 5-600, leaving 6-800 left. Can I get the coils and shocks for that?

Will I have to do anything else? Will the brake lines be ok? is the diff drop a must? Should I do anything else?

Im open to all suggestions, just want to do it right, but not go overkill, but at the same time I dont want to regret not doing enough.

You can do all that with the money you have! If you use the same lift parts I used, you might even have $100.00 left over!

My lift:

Tundra TRD Coils with stock Tundra struts, Toytec top plate spacer, Diff drop in the front.

Coils from the front of a FJ80 or FZJ80 Land Cruiser on the back of your rig, some Stock rear Landcruiser shocks from the same era Land Cruiser.

This lift should cost you about $500.00.

I looked toward revtec for the 3" suspension lift and a 3" body lift from trailmaster both for around 500 installed myself to save on labor. I personally would start with the suspension lift and you do need the front diff drop (comes with most kits) or your front half shafts will be useless in a short fun time!
 
fightman, thanks bud. I guess my second problem would be sourcing. Is there a place online that sells or did you hit up junk yards? The junk yards out here are a joke. Im origionally from San Diego, and there are a million yards out there with everything on it. Out here in NC, they suck!!!

I got my Tundra setup from E-bay, the Toytec stuff from Toytec....and the the LC coils from a guy here locally. He had a 94 Landcruiser that he lifted, so I ended up getting the coils for FREE! Even with the purchase of the Coils, you would be under $500.00 for the lift. There's a guy on here, who goes by the name Duhockey, he was once able to get ahold of LC coils for cheap, try sending him a personal message......

From what I've found, fightman80 has given you a good option for an inexpensive lift. Sourcing the used parts he mentioned may be the best way to go. I think you may have to up the budget if you want a lot of more options (from what I've seen).

Check out websites like Toytec or Sonoran Steel if you haven't already. They will give you an idea of what you would spend for a new (complete) kit. I am looking to lift my 98 as well, and the more I look, the better fightman's combo looks. Just my 0.02
 
I would do Tundra coils in the front with tundra Bilstein 5100 height adjustable shocks on the low setting. In the rear I would go with an OME 890 coil if you dont plan on carrying alot of weight or towing. A rear land cruiser or OME shock would work in the back. I would probably do a diff drop because they aren't much and fairly easy to put in. Most people have luck with bending the rear brake line bracket down. I have a longer line, but it was a pain to put in.

yea he did, I wasnt trashing the idea, but as I stated previously craigslist out here is a joke, and junk yards are a joke out here. Plus, Id imagine if I did find the setup, the weight to ship would probably out weigh the benefit of cost.

I have looked at the sonaran steele 1.2 system, I might just wait another month to save a few more bones and go with that.

so diff drop, anything else? are the brake lines a must? What company makes a good set?
 
so after talking to the wife (yikes lol) and realizing this is going to add up quick, Im going to go with the toytec setup, 3" spacer up front, 890 OME out rear, with the OME comfort shocks and diff drop. Id assume the shocks are neccessary to keep comfort bearable. I know spacers arent ideal but when I get back from this upcomming deployment Ill do coilovers.

I won the bid on the tundra rims, so thats my wheel setup. Im thinking 285/70/17 BFG ATs.

Don't do spacers. Try to find anyone here that likes their spacers. They make the ride worse.
 
Don't do the Spacer lift! It did the same lift in 2009, and in less than 10 months, I ended up swapping it for the Tundra Struts and LC Coils!

The spacer lift rides really rough, and so does the 890's in my opinion. I noticed a huge diffence in the ride of my truck when I when to the new lift. When the spacer is in the coil pack, like the Toytec 3" lift, it puts the front coils into pre-load. This causes a very rigid ride, that will piss you off every time you hit a pot hole, or wash boards.

BTW, the Tundra / LC Coils, were cheaper than the Toytec spacer lift. Shipping won't be too bad for you, it was only so much for me, because I'm in Canada. Shipping to Canada is re****ed! You guys have it made over there, when it comes to parts availability, and shipping fees. The price I gave you was shipping included!

I hope I caught you on time, and really hope you take this advice seriously. I just hate to see people waste money on spacer lifts. I only wish I had found this site before I bought mine.....alot of good info and advice on this forum!

Oh dang. Haha I didn't know it was that bad. Alright, I guess I'll just keep patient and keep searching. I found out my buddy does still work at Toyota so I'm going to see if he can help me out
 
OK just want to let you know the FZJ80 coils will give you 4+ inches of lift in the rear. I am not sure how soon your next tour is but my suggestion would be to wait until you get back. Do it right and do it once. I think the OME rear springs would be a better fit and help keep it more level in the rear. The 285/70/17 should work very nicely.
 
Yea, I might have to. Its going to be my main trail rig when I get back, and I don't think I want to do all this twice. I'll just put some basic tires on the rims for now so at least I can run the brake upgrade and I'll have the money for a slick setup when I get back. Thanks for the help guys
