Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. If you shop by the lowest price, chances are you will get burned if you ever need to make a claim. I use State Farm and have a perfect driving record with no tickets or accidents. I'm paying around $1500 a year. It actually went down again on my last payment.... I guess they added another discount.

I had state farm, but I switched back to Geico. I pay 800 every 6 mos for 06 4runner and 01 Civic. I have premium coverage and it covers myself and my fiance. We both have spotless records.

I was a brand new driver in October when I got Geico with my first runner. After I totalled that and then got the new runner, and renewed my premium with them, I now have a speeding ticket on my record as well. They still seem to like me and my rates haven't gone up from either of these. Payout and response for any problem has been quick, painless and fast (just filed a dent/scratch claim the other day). Premium is around $1600 or so per 6 months which I don't consider bad showing from my minimal record with two large blemishes.

I agree with BenSD - you get what you pay for.
I have State Farm, but I have yet to be involved in an accident with someone who has a major insurance carrier. Everyone who hits me seems to have "A1 Insurance" or some fly-by-night outfit.
Even though it's not my fault, I always deal with State Farm, and they have authorized repair of my car the next day. State Farm then handles the collection from the other insurance company.
Your age and marital status have a lot to do with your rates, in addition to your driving record and accident-free history. Single males under 25 get hammered on the price.

Another happy State Farm user here. I pay less than $900 (About $70 a month) for a year for my truck. I'm single, just turned 26 and have had 3 speeding tickets in the last 3 years (:D ). Keep in mind that I also have my house and another vehicle insured through them so I do have some discounts. I also have my motorcycle under them as well.

Just to let you guys know, this guy has been spamming all the forums for his website.

by the way I had State Farm and they would always raise my rates every year. Even tho I have no accidents or tickets. I called Pemco, and they checked my record and they said 'we look for people like you' and I've been with them for almost 3 years now. I'm paying about 1k a year less then I did with State Farm.

Plus every year my rates have been going down. This year, it should go down even more because it's my 3rd year with them and they give bigger discounts at that time.

from State Farm and switched back to Geico.. i think that's something.. you like the commercials? kidding aside, i like what you said that you have yourself and your fiance in the coverage. do you think it will cover also my brother?

if you can't afford the insurance, why not start a nursing home. I hear they give good returns!

I went with one of the cheapest quotes (not from one of the majors) and have had stellar service, so you can't always knock the cheap guys. I've had two vandalism claims on my previous car which were handled flawlessly in a few days and my rates have consistently gone down year after year. My bill for fully comprehensive insurance with low deductables is about 900 notes.

My only advice is to NOT go for the lowest coverage options just because it's cheapest. You hit a Porsche Cayenne and you'll discover your insurance tops out long before the other car is paid for. Then it comes out of your pocket. The minimum property damage liability coverage I would get these days is $100K. Even then, steer well clear of Ferraris!

Yes, that is why my property damage is at 100k. Too many rich folks here in the bay area driving 80k cars on up.

We pay almost $1100/yr here in Fl. with Hanover. Have an at fault accident on my record as well. State Farm was $150 more. We have $300,000 liability on our 4Runner just in case some idiot thinks they squeeze infront of me because they have a more expensive car. I swear they think that they are on a NASCAR track around here.
Don't forget that most Insurance Companies are doing credit checks as well as running your MVR's. If you have bad credit your premium will go up, or they'll say sorry, can't insure you. My wife is a field underwriter here in JAX, for a company in Ohio, so she deals with this everyday and knows more then I care to about insurance.
