help! lots of fault codes

hey guys....have a few problems. my 4runner's tire pressure monitoring system hasn't worked for like a year, we have tried everything, so i decided to get it fixed.

the dealer said my 2005 spat out the following errors

c1223 abs control system malfunction
u0073 control module communication bus OFF
u0100 lost communication with ECM/PCM "a"
u0123 lost communication with yaw rate sensor module
u0124 lost communication with lateral acceleration sensor module
u0126 lost communication with steering angle sensor module


they now want 100 bucks for diagnostics. i find it hard to believe all these codes are on the system without an ABS light or a check engine light. everything works fine except that damn tpms light, but to me the above errors seem like something serious that could cause an accident or something, but im a novice wrench turner.

any similar experiences/ideas? i checked all the fuses and all seem to be in tact.

Ok...these ideas are just SWAG...

Lost communication to so many things makes me think something is simply unplugged. Have you (or anyone else) done anything with the stereo or dash board or center console ... stuff like that that might have caused something to come lose? My first thought?? Also check the connections under the hood near the brake cylinder. Make sure those are secure.

If the computer just got stupid and needs resetting....My other thought is maybe a Zero Pt Reset might take help. Like I said it was just SWAG...but I'm thinking it is just something simple like a connection or a computer setting that needs resetting. To through so many lost communication codes really makes me think something is unplugged.

i have done lots of things like ja's footwell mod and the dome light mod. anybody with a wiring diagram have a clue where the control module communication bus is? the dealer said one of these faults could cause the others to trip....and that communication bus "off" is what I think is my key to getting somewhere.

Sounds like Shuly is on to something. I would check for loose connectors at the skid control ecu, the combination meter and the drivers side junction panel. The manual says "There is an open in the harness between the combination meter and skid control ECU", so start there.

Given you were working on stuff before this happened I would go back through and take off the panels you had open and see was touched. Stuff happens...it is annoying trying to find that harness that was missed or not quite plugged in. Best of Luck!!!

i THINK i may have found something contributing to the problem.

ja, when we were doing the footwell mod we lowered the driver side interior relay/junction box to get to the back of it. i was retracing my steps and found a complete clip that was undone! NOW before we get excited, I can't find ANYWHERE to plug the clip into.

here is a pic of the clip it is right behind the junction box like it should plug in there but there is no slot, there is about 5 wires that feed into the clip, 3 smaller width wires and 2 larger wires (the larger ones are solid yellow and solid black)

pictures in the garage at 2 am are crappy, but here is what i got.

ANY advice on where this clip plugs into and is this my module communication error link?

i will post the pic for future searchers.....took the runner to the dealership with my wiring everywhere to show them the connector.

they told me it was supposed to be not connected to anything and it has something to do with when pulling a trailer to adjust something on your brakes. they said i should have had a cable in my glove box that came with it to plug in, but i got it with 20K miles so i guess the original owner took it out.

SO my search continued, and after 2 more hours I had checked just about every wireharness, took off all the moldings, etc.......and low and behold. after taking out the glove box, the black kickplate underneath it (remember ja the one that we fed the passenger front led through).......there was a tpms box with a wire harness unplugged! son of a *****, I plugged it in and the tire light went out. over a year with that thing on!

i probably was so excited about finishing the led mod that I just buttoned it up quick to get the final look!

now, i have other problems. haa....through all this unhooking wires, harnesses, battery terminals, etc......i now have the vsc trac light on, so im 99% sure that the zero point reset will take care of that and i will be in the clear.

I have followed these directions to a T for doing the zero point test without a "toyota 60,000$ tool" and I can't get the damn thing to reset, and the dealers want me to "schedule an appointment, spend 85 bucks plus tax, and drop off my vehicle for a damn 2 minute computer reset. I am furious and want to do this myself.

anybody have luck doing this reset and getting it to work without the toyota tool? i have found a post where people do it with paperclips and wires and have tried that and can't get the damn "blinking" that shows the zero point reset has worked.

any advice please?

Glad one problem went away!!! I personally haven't ever had to do the Zero Pt Reset so I can't say what actually works. My only other thought is to pull the battery cable for 5-10 minutes and reset everything that way. I don't think it has an effect on the ZPR but its a quick and easy thing to do if you have a 10mm wrench handy.

No need to wait to crack open beers...open them now it makes maintenence and repairs go so much better. Oh yeah and beer ensures that you catch your limits when fishing :fishing:
