help me acura mdx or da runner

guys im having a delimma
i can buy a 2005 acura mdx with 30000miles for 20k with a 2.9 interest rate

or i can buy my 2005 runner sr5 v8 with leather with 30000miles for 20k
but at a 7% interest rate

my runner is in showroom condition with a sound system, grilles
spoiler and 08 limited runner rims

the mdx comes standard with leather and stuff no nav

guys please dont be biased but need your advice
i love my runner just as much as every1 in this sites loves theres
but ill be saving 40-50bucks a month by getting a mdx
and i tried every type of finance but no luck

2005 is when the V8 picked up the 5speed.

MDX...no Navigation, forget it.

Plus...I'm still not convinced that Honda/Acura has fixed their V6 5speed transmission.

What would you expect to hear on this forum? Of course Runner is what you should go with. Let me put it this way: if you are soccer mom thats "too sexy" for minivan then get MDX, but if you are gearhead like most of us - 4Runner is the ticket.

This kind of stuff always gets me. IDK your spending habits but here is a way to EASILY save that $$ and then some...

Do you buy a $5 cup of Starbucks every morning?

Do you buy your lunch at work or do you bring it?

Do you typically eat out for dinner or cook it for your family etc?

Do you watch all 700 channels that your digital cable offers?

Do you smoke $5 a pack cigarettes?

Although I'm 19, I saved $35 a week by bringing my lunch to work this summer.

All these people b1tching (obviously not you) about gas etc but they have no problem buying lunch everyday, smoking a pack everyday, and buying that STUPID $5 cup of coffee everyday.

Catch my drift?

I'm sure you can easily save $45 a month by doing something different.

OH and the most important aspect safety for your child!!!! The 4R is full body on frame construction MDX is that awful uni-frame body. Hitting a pothole the wrong way will knock the Acura so far out of alignment it might never drive the same let alone being in a crash.

4R is built on a COMPLETELY boxed frame, not this half and half BS lik

EDIT: Furthermore regarding the safety of these vehicles. I dont care how many airbags these new sedans/uni-body crossover wanabe SUV's have. Nothing protects you like solid steel. Airbags simply create a puffy bag to smash you with where as a full frame will absorb the impact passing less of it to the passengers.

You know which one I'd go for.

V8 4Runners always had a 5-speed transmission. In 2005, the V8 got VVT-i (a bump in torque and picked up quite bit of HP). The 4.7 V8 is built on a proven design and will last very long with little maintenance.

The underlying question is what are you plans for the SUV.

If you tow or plan taking it off-road, keep the 4Runner.

If you won't be towing and just being on pavement all the time, get the MDX. The ride might be a little more comfortable than the 4Runner.

I don't know if you need third row seats. However, the MDX seats tuck away much more neatly than the 4Runner. I rode a real estate agent's MDX (first gen), the ride is comfy, interior noise is quiet similar to the 4Runner and the second row seems to be roomier than the 4Runner's.

I would expect the MDX to get better gas mileage, but I could be wrong.

The other question is how comfortable are you with used. You know the history of your 4Runner.

im not really a huge spender, i dont buy lunch, hate starbucks coffee
and take my wife out once every other week for dinner and usually eat home or at the parents or in-laws although my commute is about $1200 a month between gas and tolls and i use a corolla and i spend 4 hours commuting everyday and i work 35minutes away from my job so most of it is traffic.
i love my runner and im on this site daily but hardly write just read and i want to keep my runner but da runner is 20k non neg
through toyota at 7.5% and the mdx will be 19k at 2.9%
so now i'll be savin 70bucks a month by getting the mdx
cause the guy just dropped it down to 19k, i do little towing and when i drove the mdx, it was ok but the runner was overall BETTER faster more sturdy plus my runner is in showroom condition so i dont know what to do money is tight

If you want the 4r, there is definitely a way to save $2 a day.

Otherwise go with the MDX.

the biggest reason for possibly retaining the T4R is that you've had since day one and know how you've driven it and took care of it. The Acura may have some skeletons lurking it it's closet.

They also showed very similar reliability ratings and a higher average fuel economy going to the MDX by 2 additional miles per gallon. Some additional points to consider. I have to say I personally would find it to be a tough decision and based on what the given scenario is, I am leaning towards the MDX. The warranty and significantly lower interest rate are big things to consider

The 4Runner wont come with an extended warranty,
because it doesnt need it.

If you are going to be mostly driving on paved roads, either will be fine, but the MDX will ride smoother. If you plan on the occasional off-road jaunt or plan to keep it for a long term, go for the 4runner. Remember by nature, the MDX will cost more to repair as you are paying premium for a "luxury" SUV.

Also, doesn't the MDX take premium only? 4Runner takes regular fuel...

If you are comparing these two then the MDX is probably the right choice.

With kids on the way really pay attention to how you will load car seats etc. Any savings in $ is also going to be welcome. Which works better for your wife? The lift of a baby+carseat to the middle of the runner bench takes a bit of effort; who knows if the MDX is easier?

As most have said, for it's "purpose" the 4runner wins...but if you don't need off-road, towing, etc. then the MDX will be just dandy. With new kids, you may not have time for towing/off-roading etc anyway.

The MDX is something new, and that has a level of excitement as well. On the other hand, with kids you want as few variables as possible with "everything else".

Personally if I were making the choice, I'd stick with the runner knowing it's history, and that it is plenty overbuilt, and up to every task I have ever thrown it's way. 'Sides, I can rarely get comfy in a honda/Acura.

If I'm understanding you correctly, Toyota will finance the $20k at 7.5% interest? Have you looked at other financing options beside Toyota? Your bank or credit union should be able to give you a better deal than that...

i have looked at every finance option i know of credit union, toyota, banks everything cheapest i found is 6.75% the only other option is a home equity and i dont want to,
so even if i dont want to i may have to go with the mdx
cause toyota wont even budge with the buy back price i asked

Too bad...

A suggestion, maybe a dumb one but... you could turn in your lease and let Toyota take the hit, they'll never sell a used T4R at that buyback price.

I'm sure the market is flooded with lease turn ins as a result of the market and oil/ fuel prices. I'm sure you could get something similar or possibly better/ newer than what you're currently driving for less. I'm sure you could negotiate warranties and the like as well...

I had a 03 MDX, I would definitely not recommand the MDX. Its is very poorly built compare to the 4Runner. Lots of minor problems every where. The tranny issue was fix when they redesign the 5 speed gearbox in 03, but it is still a light duty tranny, not like the one in the 4runner.

Bottom line is that if you are looking for a Solid truck built with quality, stay with the 4Runner. If you need a 7 seater, buy the MDX or get a minivan.
