Help me build my winch bumper please

Hey everyone I have been looking to add a winch to the front of my 1986 4runner and I don't want to spend a ton on a bumper since it's just a toy I don't drive it a ton. Regardless I have a Smittybilt bumper that I bought for $100. I still need to weld up brackets to make it fit but I've seen people cut into these before and mount a winch plate to make it winch compatible. If I buy a Harbor Freight winch mount plate and cut the bumper to fit it in will that be good enough? I will probably weld up some support to make the plate more sturdy. A

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

First you need one of these on your front crossmember: 4x Innovations LLC: 84-95 Front Bumper Frame Support

Then you need one of these to build the rest of your bumper around: '84-88 Toyota Pickup/ '84-89 4Runner Front Bumper Winch Mount

That's the simplest way I know for a beginning fabricator to put together a front bumper sturdy enough to winch with. That Smittybilt you've got is worthless - mine would crumple any time a rock looked at it funny, no way would I trust it to hold up to winching.

So long story short you are saying sell the Smittybilt and either just buy a bumper or build one? I have an employee who is a pretty good fabricator and he will do a lot of the work.

I concur with kidv. Those 2 products are my setup and it's a good combo. Winched myself and heavier trucks and all stayed :thumb:
