HELP me decide quick on 3 items.

I took my 4runner for the 30,000 mile service today because I am right before the 36,000 mile point where the warranty is gone and I need some advice.

They are recommending some sort of Electronic Fuel Injection flush or something. They said it had some black gummy stuff built up and I don't remember the rest. It would cost $149.95 and 10% off because if AAA. Should I do it?

I'm also going to talk to their finance department about getting an extended warranty, so that might factor in to my design for this preventative maintenance. If you have an extended warranty, please share what you paid to help me with my negotiation.

I also need tires super bad, so if anyone has an opinion what I should get, please share. I know there are a million tire threads in here but I thought I'd ask anyway. I don't really offroad but would like to try on occasion and I do go to the mountains (snow) a few times every season.

To summarize:

• Fuel Injection Flush: Yes/No?
• Extended Warranty Prices?
• Recommended Tires?

Tires - You can't go wrong the the REVOs. For a lower cost alternative (though not lower performance), check out the Nittor Terra grapplers.

Fuel Injection service - Find out what kind of service do they perform. Do they dump a $10 fuel injector additive in your gas tank and charge you $150. Nothing is listed on the Toyota maintenace schedule so keep that in mind. I wouldn't do it unless you have issues with your truck hesitating or have bad performance.

It has always sorta hesitated a little bit when I punch it. I wonder if this is why. Do you think I could get them to cover it under warranty since it might be affecting the performance?

for the hesitation problem, run a some seafoam through the tank first. you can get it a napa for about $5.00 a can. see if it works for you. I'd do that first before I spent 150.00 on a pressure flush of the fuel injection (assuming that is what the dealer was going to do)

I spent just under $900.00 for the toyota full everything extended warranty. the 100,000 mile one.

I dont need tires for my 4R but I love Michelin's LT X tires for my other truck. others on the board run revos, bfg's and nittos and really seem to like them.

I would not get the FI service. Things can't be that dirty at 30k unless you run really cheap gas. All name brand gas has good detergent/additive packages.


I will be looking at BFGS, Revos, and Nittos when the time comes.

I forgot to add this... change the fuel filter as well. dealer mentioned you had some gunk right? maybe the filter has done its job trapping God knows what and isn't allowing good flow anymore. I've seen it before.
