Help me get a new bumper for my truck please.

So I just got in an accident and my front bumper lost the fight with a tundra's trailer hitch, but my back got away with scraps and bruises. So I need some advice on how to get the at fault person ins co to cut the check in my name so I can use it to get a steel bumper. Or should l go thru my ins co and let them get reimbursed by his ins co? Thanks in advance

I had the exact thing happen except they hit my side and tore my bumper cover. Paint and labor are very expensive but luckily the only real painting would be the new bumper cover. So I did what you wanna do and got a CBI bumper.

The person stayed honest and once the police report came out I called State Farm (their insurer) and they gave me a check. Definately go through their insurance company then you don't have to file a claim with your own company.

I'm also pretty sure legally they have to let you choose how to repair the car.

Let them do the estimate, then tell them you want the check to take it to your own body shop. That's how I got a payout on a hit and run on my Tacoma. The dent didn't bother me, so I kept the money. Almost 2k and if I ever actually want to fix it, I'm pretty sure I can PDR it for 200.

I had an accident in one of my previous vehicles and I let the insurance adjuster come out and write it up, I also took the vehicle to three shops of my choosing and got estimates and handed them in to my insurance. They averaged the estimates and increased their original estimate. I then took it to the shop of my choice to have the repairs made and let the shop know that, rather than OEM, I wanted to have some aftermarket parts installed. Turned out to be around the same cost.
