help me pick a Mmod for July

I've been a member of this forum since my first car, 99 4runner v6 2wd. Since then I've gone through many cars and came back in 2010 with another 4runner purchase, this time a 99 4cyl 2wd with a manual tranny. Mainly decided the 2wd because of the extra weight and the fact that I don't plan on off roading too much. This may change... Anyway its been over a year and I can finally start to afford mods and I wanted to make my 4runner the top priority out of my car lineup. Mainly since I never got to finish my first one before I sold it...unfinished projects are the worst you can't ever let them go...

I'm thinking between these...
- Toytec 3" lift with bilstein 5150 rears
- 4.88 gears with trutrac LSD
- HID projector retrofit - this is alot less than the other two I know...

Budget is not an big issue but feeling the need to be responsible I can only have one mod per month... I don't have over sized tires now...but I do plan on running 32-33" tires in the future as in probably August or September. 90% of the driving will be pavement and this may change. The 4runner isn't my daily. Right now I am preemptively replacing my lower ball joints...after seeing all the failures...

My first mod would be a revo flash for the RS4. Next month would be a set of piggy pipes.

lol hater!

Meh... it really all depends on what you wanna do with the thing. If so much of your driving is on road, then you won't like 33"s or lifts very much unless you regear. That sentence alone will cost over $1,000... even near $2,000.

All in all, I have spent wayyyy too much on my 3RZ 2WD 4Runner. It will hardly be justified even if I do a 4WD swap like I plan.... Oh well... the price of love.

I love your rig. I was kind of going towards your direction. I don't have a budget in mind I just love my 4runner too. I've just been preoccupied with buying my other cars and then doing reliability mods on the rx7. I've had a mods list for the 4runner since I sold my last one back in 07. I do plan on fullfilling the mods list in the next 6-8 months optimistically... but you know how it goes its neverending...

No sense in lifting a 2wd, unless you are James. :p

Id say projector retrofit!

Yeah, I'd say the best mod you could do is to use your mod money as the difference in replacing your 2WD with a 4WD. Don't get all emo like James did and blow your wad on a 2WD:frog:

Love you James!:hello:

then doing reliability mods on the rx7

I'm a previous Rx-7 owner... Twice.

Never an FD tho, two FC's. One S4, and one S5, both N/A. I had about 94,000 miles on my first S4 when it was totaled, drove it for another 6 months wrecked and then it died.

Bought the S5 with an brand spankin new rebuilt motor still in the break-in period. I sold it after having it for about 10k miles, 11mpg hurts like hell and it had no power... I swapped an entire TII drivetrain in from tranny back with the limited slip planning on doing a TII engine swap but I lost my will for it.

I will always love the Rx-7's and the rotary engine, but will never own one again.

+1

If it isn't' going to be offroaded don't spend a bunch of money on lifts, tires, etc just to look like it. If you want to keep the 2WD make it a nice car, run a nice sound system, paint faded trim, etc.

That being said... COB's 4Runner is sweet.

I guess I should rephrase my initial statements. I drive the 4runner probably 10% of the time out of the four cars haha. So probably will mostly be roadtrips but I'd like the opportunity to take her off the road as well. Lets change that to a 60/40 split seeing that I have two other cars I daily. Plus none of them have the offroad capability of the 4runner. As far as it being 2wd...just because its not 4wd doesn't mean I can't play either lol. The RS is awd and I can't play at all in that car the same way I could in the runner.

Did I mention it was this kind of rx7 reliability?

Nope didn't see that. :thumb3:

I was huge on being a rotary-only in an Rx-7 kind of guy for awhile... Then I became a believer in the LS#'s. Purists are dumb. :rockthrow: Wish I could have afforded an LS. :D

Now, to help with your questions about your 4Runner, I will require pictures... Of the 7... :bravo:

Same weight as the original motor if I'm remembering my 7 tech correctly. :nerd:

Actually without the transmission the ls2 v8 engine weighs 40 lbs less than the 13b rew...however with the t56 transmission the overall weight is 60 lbs more... I may have the numbers reversed. Anyway does it matter when it's an estimated 500+ hp to the wheels in an overall 2700 lb car...

soo....july mod in...

So it turns out I'm not very good at listening to advice...UPS / Fed Ex fairies dropped by today...got some...
