Help me respond to Kurt

I need some help responding intelligently to this guy.

I emailed the local parts department for a price quote on JUST the Trail Edition moulding where we took the rocker panels off of my SR5. I didn't ask about the fenders or the mudflaps, JUST the moulding. We already know how to install them and we don't anticipate any problems.

Here is the reply. I still want to get the price quote so I can compare with other locations.

It looks like this is going to get pretty expensive. With the parts and install you are looking at around $1200 for the rocker mouldings. I don't have a Trail on the lot to look at so at this point I'm not sure if there would be any problem with the rocker moulding mating up with the fender flares. If this is something that you would like to do I will investigate it further. If it does not mate up then we would be looking at needing to replace the flares also. At that point it would be very cost prohibitive and it would probably be cheaper to trade out for a Trail. Let me know if you have any further questions.

p.s. Seriously? He suggested possibly trading in for a TE? Because I asked about mouldings? LMFAO

Here's the full parts list from Harper7: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/81939-te-parts-needed-convert-sr5-limited-exterior.html

A little update for those who are dying to know, because everyone is dying to know what I'm up to. lol

Kurt "helpfully" provided my information to the sales department, who gave me a ringy ding.

Little info on me: If the first question out of a sales guy's mouth is "What does your husband think?", I might just be bored enough to let him waste his time trying to sell me a new vehicle.

I was interested in doing the same thing (remove rockers and replace with TE molding). The TE molding turns out to be around $350 w/tax&shipping (almost the same price as trading in for a TE...HA!), which seems a little steep for what you get. Also, Harper had mentioned that the TE modling doesn't match up with the SR5 flares, so you would still have an unfinished look. With that being said, I still much prefer the trimmer/leaner look of the SR5 without the rocker panels. Good luck!

Having a northern European name that English speakers seem to assume belongs to a female, I get a lot of that stuff too, via phone from the service department thinking there's easy money to be made, via email, telemarketers ("Are you the husband of Homeyclaus? Your wife will LOVE this ...") and she always gets my credit card to sign at restaurants. I don't seem to take kindly to people second-guessing my wife either.

I'd respond to that question with a "What do you think he'll think of your question?" My wife does that once in a while. As to the outcome, see above.

Whew - rant over. Sorry 'bout that. Great story - waste their time, shoot 'em down, I say.
