HELP!! mechanic confusing Xreas components with brake master cylinder

My truck (2004 limited V8 4x4) is at a mechanic right now to have the Xreas pulled and replaced with 5100's and FJC coils. He's telling me that he's tracing the hydraulic lines back to the brake master cylinder and that all the hydraulic systems on the truck are tied in together (I know they're not, and I've sent him the diagram).

What is he confusing here? Does he think that the center control absorber is the brake master cylinder? This is a reputable mechanic, but he just seems to be confused by this system. Can anybody help me help him?

Save yourself a hassle. You don't need to pull the actual XREAS lines, just the shocks themselves. In fact, leaving the plumbing enables a future owner to go back, should they want to.

They do not ever touch the brake system and he is tracing the wrong plumbing.

You will notice right after the shock, there are easy disconnect junctions. Just remove from there.


I think he misunderstands how the system works and is assuming it follows the brake lines. Easy mistake, as they trace the same body channels down to the tires.

OK, I just heard back from him. I had sent him that same diagram along with a bunch of threads from T4R.com, and he's got it figured out.
UNFORTUNATELY.... He's now rushing his wife to emergency surgery, so I have to go pick up my truck and bring it back to him next week.
I figured out what I wanted a while back... got the springs... then the shocks... finally brought it to be done... al...most...there!!!! This is killing me now. I was supposed to do some wheeling in Big Bear this weekend!

Always do it yourself. It is a suspension work, in particular what you are trying to do, is pretty easy.

if the 4runner has xreas and the air suspension, dont you have to fabricate something in the rear to make regular shocks and springs work?

No air in the rear. Coincidentally though, I'm adding Airlift 1000 later.

And I'd love to do it myself, but I just don't have the time. And I'm not sure I can do it at home anyway, since I share a driveway.

Everything I read about the XREAS system says CAUTION, under high pressure. Make sure you know what you are doing or the mechanic knows what he id doing. you dont need his wife taking him to the emergency room next week.

Just lift all 4 corners, then unbolt the XREAS. No problem at all. So far I've done this with two XREAS 4Runners.
