HELP! Mystery Fluid Leak

Ok guys I have that stupid clunk in my driveline and from what I have read I need to do some greasing. But, I have a leak coming from the bell housing in and the block. I used to work for Ford so I can diagnose a leak or two, so I cleaned it really well with brake clean and wiped it down so it was nice and dry. Couple days later a little bit more mystery fluid is coming out. Today I removed the plastic piece in between the bell and the block and the rear main area is perfectly dry. I felt around and the fluid seems to be coming from the torque converter. I smelled it and it smells like hydraulic fluid.

I have a 2007 v6 4x4 with 101k I keep up on maintenance and everything.

Anyone have this problem before? I wanted to check with you guys before I go hacking into a project or going to the stealership.

Ive never seen it happen before but it sounds like a leak from the front of the trans at the oil pump. Is the fluid red or black?

If the fluid is found inside the bottom of the bell housing, and you are sure the area around the rear engine main seal is dry, then the only likely source is from the front pump area of the trans. There are two possible leak sources on the front pump, the main seal between the neck of the torque conveter and pump, and the big 'O' ring that seals the front pump assy to the main trans housing. In either case, the trans needs to be removed to fix it. Trans fluid is usually red or brownish in color. Since you have a 'sealed' transmission, it won't be easy to access the fluid to match it to what you see leaking.

after looking more into it, it sounds like a rear main ooozing. The fluid is brown not red so its not the trans.

Guess I will have to wait and see how it turns out in a month or so.
