Help needed - Airbag indicator light staying on

I need some help figuring out what I screwed up.

I'm adding sound deadening to the floor of the main cabin. I've installed it under the carpet for the front passenger seat and rear seats up to the cargo area. I still have to do under the drivers seat. I currently have the entire rear seat out, the rear of the carpeting is loose (not tucked in all nice and neat). The lower B pillar covers are still off as are the door sill covers. The rear seat belts are bolted in place (to stop the from rattling) as are the front seat belts.

Today I made a run to the store and the airbag (SRS) indicator in the dash didn't turn off after several seconds as it normally would. This is the first time running the truck since putting the passenger seat back in. No one has used the passenger seat yet. ScanGauge is NOT showing any error codes and doing a forced clear didn't change things. I noticed the passenger seat seems to be a few inches higher than I remember but that's probably my imagination as it's properly seated/bolted to the floor and there isn't a height adjustment for it..

I don't want to pull the driver's seat until this is resolved since it might complicate the issue.

Before I pull the front seat again to double check the connectors, I was looking for other suggestions as to what it might be. Such as, is there a initialization sequence I need to go through for the seat's airbag weight detector, etc?

First thing I would check is to make sure the electrical connector under the seat was plugged in correctly...
 
Double checked the connections and they all were good. In the process I disconnected the battery and when I reconnected I cycled the key to ACC then RUN waiting about 30 seconds at each before trying to start.

The light is still on. I did notice that an airbag wire (yellow wrapped pair) behind the passenger kick panel seemed stretched and might have a break in it. There is a point where it flexes easier than the rest of it, almost like it has been folded back and forth several times. It makes me wonder if I caught the carpet on it and stretched it creating a break. I haven't been able to trace where it leads to but think it goes to the B pillar. If I can figure out where it goes, I can check it for a break.
 
Not sure if this is relevant to your situation but I did notice that the service manual states:

Be sure to perform initialization of the occupant classification ECU under any of the following conditions. If initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
-The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
-Accessories (seatback tray, seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
-The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle, and then reinstalled or replaced.
-The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light (OFF) comes on when the passenger seat is not occupied.
The vehicle is brought to a workshop for repair due to an accident or collision.

Thanks, makes me feel better that I might just need to re-init something.

Looks like I need to make a trip to the dealer to have them re-cal it. Oh well, I'm do for a free service anyway.

Just a thought to others that are contemplating adding sound deadening to the floor, or for any other reason, pulling the front passenger seat. You might be able to avoid this issue if you don't reconnect the battery until you've put the seat back in. I connected my battery to get additional lighting which probably caused the problem. If I pull the seat again, I won't reconnect the battery until I've got the seat back in, or at least reconnected the wires.

I know this is a thread revival, but my airbag light has been on for a few days now.

see the light in the pic.

Any idea what may be causing this? I've had wet okoles installed for probably like 6-8months now and this is a recent issue...

Mine came on for a few days and went off. Came back on a few weeks later and went off. Then it stayed on for like a month, went off and has been fine ever since.

I know that doesn't help you but nobody could help me figure it out either, lol.

well i now just need to find out if it will pass inspection in TX with this light on... inspection is up in a month...
 
Well...

You have a TE with the tinted dash plastic.

Take the cluster off and the tinted plastic and cover the light with electrical tape. It'll work to get you passed- ask [MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION]

lol. yea that will be the first thing i do. its the cheapest solution by far.
 
Get the TIS software. It will tell you exactly what the problem is. It keeps logs of all of the various ECU's even if the problem fixes itself, you will be able to see that at some point there was an issue.

While that would without doubt work for something like the AB light I would want to know why its on and get it fixed. But then I do run a lot without a seat belt so air bags are my plan B :lol:
 
the light has gone off... i have contracted the [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] airbag problem...

oh well i guess as long as she keeps rolling as long as [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION]'s has, i guess its not so bad.

i have a scanguage II hooked up, it didnt read the code when the light was on. i tried that.

and how do you know it means no airbag operation? just curious if youve had the same issue and got the code run or something.

Any time the air bag light is on that means it has been deactivated due to an error.

look it up this is a standard type operation on motor vehicles.

an example also would be the ABS light on that also would be deactivated due to an error detected.

scan gauge II may not read all codes .
