Help needed - Airbag indicator light staying on

Grant K - when you checked the connections did you take them apart and look for bent or broken pins and check that the wires were seated (locked) in each half of the connector?

I bring this thread back to life. My airbag light has been on for the last week. I was hoping it will go away but it is still on. I didn't remove the seat or done anything to the car. There was not any code come up. I disconnected the battery and waited for 30 min then reconnected it. The light is still on.

How do you know there isn't a DTC stored? I can guarantee you that if the light is on, there's DTCs stored.

My guess is that the OCS (Occupant Classification System) Zero Point Calibration got undone somehow. I see it every now and then with customer cars, not entirely sure why it happens; but sometimes it does. Easy enough fix if you have a TIS Techstream and 66lbs of calibrated weight.

I did the scan. It showed no data. I went to the saved data and couldn't find anything. I don't have TIS Techstream. Anyone know how much it cost for dealer to check it out?

Usually most shops/dealers charge a flat hour to diagnose.

You need a scantool that is SRS capable. Generic OBDII will not pick up anything but generic OBDII codes out of the ECM. You need a scantool that can speak to the SRS Module and pull codes.

I called the dealer. They charge $130 for diagnostic. $130 will apply to the fee if the dealer does the work. I will take the 2 front seats out and check all the connections before I take it to the dealer

I just took a short break from work. I went to the 4runner. Disconnect one to the harness under the seat, started the car, the light went off. Reconnect the harness, started the car, the light went off. The forum just saved me 130 bucks.

Notes: There were two harnesses under the seat. The big one was for the power seat. The small one was for the airbag sensor which triggered the light.

My guess is the light will probably come back after a short while, sounds like the calibration was un-done. Once the OCS realizes that it'll set the light again. You can keep unplugging it if you want, but realistically speaking it's not calibrated which means the SRS system may not deploy the airbag correctly if someone sits there.

You are correct. It is back again last night. I have to take it to the dealer.

I'm having the same problem after brake controller install. I have not checked if the installers left out any seat connections.

Wondering if anyone has found a root cause to this problem?

It came on and off and now its been on for about a day.
