Help Needed! Overhead light/sunglass fixture

Did I break something? I removed the plastic structure housing the sunglass holder and maplights (to hardwire my valentine1) as instructed from previous posts, by pulling hard on the side closest to the windshield. Well, now it doesn't want to secure itself back in place. The plastic velcro grabs, but the area closest to the windshield is loose. The two plastic tips that came out of the two holes don't seem to be fastening to anything in the holes anymore. Are the plastic tips/tabs supposed to be just plastic, or was there supposed to be something metal secured to them? If possible, can someone who has successfully removed this post a picture of the underside of the assembly (the side not seen when installed. Hopefully someone here will know how to help me out. Thanks so much.

I searched around and I guess this has happened to other people, and they have replaced the metal retention clips that hold the unit in place. Does anyone have the part number for these clips? Thanks.

same thing happened to me. i dug around up inside the roof until i found my retention clips using some speaker wire and goop. it was a real pain.

i would think that enough people have replaced their covers so as to install homelink that somebody should have an extra couple of clips lying around. unfortunately i do not, otherwise i would send them to you.

I wonder why the Toyota Corp. places these little metal retention clips all over this vehicle. Whenever one disassembles a snap in part these little metal tabs dislodge and become lost in creveats, headliners or other spaces. This same clip is on the end caps of the roof rack kit. Whenever you lift up to snao off the roof rack caps; they snap apart as if you just broke the little plastic tab that holds the metal clip.

I lost both metal clips inside of the rack's tubing. After finding them, I was relieved that I hadn't broken anything---just dislodged the metal covering clip!

I lost one of the metal clips when doing the Map-Light-Mod. It flew up inside the headliner somewhere. I never found it so the sunglass holder sags. Some day it will probably bounce around and start rattling. Then I will have sunroof rattles in stereo :D
