Help on tranny cooler install, quick!

I installed the cooler to bypass the one in the radiator. What the hell size is the rubber hose supposed to be? What came in the kit is too small and I cant get it to slip over the hard lines that go to the tranny.

Really, I have blisters on my hands from trying to twist it.

i used 3/8 ID. it was tight and a little vassaline made it slide on nicely. took some force tho.

Did you use approved ATF 3/8" hose?

Unfortanately I cut the old hose off so I am kinda screwed. Have to work at 3pm tomorrow so I may be riding my bicycle to find some hose.

I love how relatively simple things turn into complete disasters before you know it. At least I was able to get my diffs and t-case drained and refilled.

If anybody else has any info that would be appreciated. I will be trying to get some sleep and will check back in about 8 hours or so.

If you can find actual transmission cooler hose, that's great. If not, some 3/8" fuel line will be fine. You're not dealing with a high pressure application on the cooler circuit, you just want to make sure you get a type of hose that won't deteriorate with transmission fluid running through it.

Technically the factory lines are probably 10mm, which makes 3/8s the closest match. But make sure you have the right size for the cooler size as well as the truck side.

One trick that i use is boil the end of the hose in water. Usually i will use a pan and a propane torch so i'm next to the car, but you could do it on the stove as well and just get it to the truck quickly. Heating it in this way will allow the rubber to stretch a bit w/ out damaging it like heating the hose directly will do.

I don't know where you are at but by me Kragen only had 5/16. I got 3/8 from Autozone. If anything is the standard it would be 11/32 which is inbetween those two and is what a lot of companies put in the kits with coolers. The hose that came with my cooler may have been 3/8 but it was much stiffer hose. The stuff I got from Autozone was very pliable, pushed on with no problems. I bought 8ft and used most of it. I didn't use any of the 5ft that came with my cooler.

Its Oregon, there is no sun. Napa has 3/8" hose, I will give that a shot.

As for the diffs and t-case -

Rear diff Valvoline Syn blend 80w90
Front diff Valvoline 75w90
T-case Valvoline 75w90

Got it done this morning.

They were still difficult to get on there and one of the hoses that I attached directly on the tranny line didnt quiet get as far as I would like it to, about 1/4 inch off, but I dont think its going anywhere. Snugged everything down with the worm style clamps.

The most difficult part was routing the hoses and covering with additional rubber at contact points to avoid wearing holes in them.

It was kinda nice as the Hayden cooler came with little fittings covering the ports on the trannycooler during packaging, worked perfect for plugging the lines on the radiator.

Finished it up with a drain and fill of the tranny with Valvoline Max life, about 4.25 qts.

So both diffs, t-case, and tranny have fresh fluid.

im actually doin the same thing have a ? tho. im receiving my b&m cooler 2morrow. didnt think i wud get it early. so today i drained my tranny 2 do a drain/fill. didnt refill yet cause i need a new bolt washer to plug bak nn b4 refill. ? is should i w8 to install cooler b4 filling bak up with new fluid. or can i refill anyways if i dont have time to install cooler yet. planning on another drain/fill in about another 500 miles 2 get more new fluid in as well. any recommendations?

Not sure I get your question but sounds like you are worried about more spilling out when you pull the old cooler lines if you fill the pan now. Filling the pan won't make a difference. A little will spill out whether the pan is empty or full.
