Help pick a size and tire Nitto G2 or Cooper AT3..

I'm slowly going insane.. I've changed my mind repeated times over this... but I am set on getting the Toytec boss lift.. So I need the right tire size.. here are the stats..

current tires:

265/65/17 nexen radian HT.. 30.5x10.5 weight 35.2 lbs.. (came with the vehicle)


prospective tires:

255/75/17 Cooper AT3 32.1x10.1.. weight 37.9 (cheapest option by about 150 bucks)

255/75/17 KO2.. 32x10.. weight 45.5

285/70/17 Cooper AT3 32.7x11.3.. weight 44.9 lbs (very light) (ko2 is 57.4 lbs)

285/70/17 Nitro Terra Grappler G2 32.7x11.5.. weight 44.5 lbs (very light)

265/70/17C BF Goodrich KO2.. 31.6x10.7.. weight 45.7 (heavy and expensive)


I see a lot of love for the 255s and 285s.. and was told 265/70 would look small with the lift I am planning on?? The thing is those 285s listed are very light for their size, they weigh less than the KO2s at 265/70.. and was hoping if I went that route I would only lose say like a 1-1.5 mpg... not like 3+ with E rated.. of course the solution would be like 265/75/17 or 275/70/17 in a SL but they don't seem to make those...

I want a capable rig but honestly 99% of my driving is city/highway.. I live in florida it rains a lot so good street characteristics is important, I want it to look good, I want it to drive good, and I don't want to get crushed on MPG.. that is really it..

so please help me make up my mind!

I'd look at things like highway driving longevity and hydroplaning performance since those will be the main environments being in Florida and not much off road.

Realistically the weight difference will cost you maybe 1mpg. Do the math on that vs replacing the tires 10k miles sooner than a heavier tire that has a longer lasting tread.

There are always a ton of misc factors that could be weighed in with decisions like these, just look at it from different angles or perhaps step away from it for a day and start fresh to avoid making yourself crazy.
 
I run the AT3s in 265/70/17 with the Toytec Boss lift. They might look the slightest bit small, but definitely nothing that bothers me enough to change right now. If you're mostly highway, I'd say the 255/75 or 265/70 would be your best bet for good looks and good mpg.

I very strongly recommend the AT3s, they've been fantastic in the sharp rocks of the high mtn passes, solid in mud, and excellent in snow. No stopping them even in our 2 ft blizzard last March, drove around all day digging other people out. Oh yeah, they're good on the highway too, which is 80% of my driving, even if I prefer it were only 20% :)

I'd recommend a 275/70/17 as they "usually" fit without additional modifications with a lift like you're doing. They should also fit in the spare tire location with minimal difficulty.

Your biggest decrease in mileage will come from the lift. Higher off the ground= More wind resistance and reduced mileage.

You might find a little slower performance with acceleration using the larger tire size, but not by much.

You're not driving a fuel efficient car so I would reccomend choosing 1 of the 3 275/70/17's and drive on.....

I'm personally leaning BFG ATKO2's when my 265's tread life is over and I have a 3" OME lift on my 04.

We all look at this subject in many different ways. here is how I look at it.

Does your current tires width make you happy? You are looking at 3 different widths, if you want wider obviously go 275/285. If your happy with 265 or willing to so narrower go 255.

You are comparing red apples to green apples as well. Your AT3 and NTG weights look like you are talking SL tires, which is perfectly fine. The KO2's only come in C,D,E that's why they weight and cost more.

Lots of people will say many different things, and several will come in throwing other brands etc in here.

Cooper does make an AT3 in C rating that weighs 47lb. That looks like a happy medium for your thoughts. https://www.treaddepot.com/#!productDetail/tireStandardFitment/90000002733

I love my 285 Dura's, do I need a D rating? Oh H no, because I don't go offroad. but to me C,D,E rating tires look better. More tread and stiffer side so they don't bulge as much.
 
Really I only lost at most 2 mpg with a 3.5" front and 3" rear lift and going from stock tires to 285/70/17 Duratracs load range E. You aren't going to see hardly any MPG difference between the tires you have listed. I have the V8, YMMV.
 
With the front coilovers

icon stage 1 set @ 2" with LRC UCAs im running 255/75/17s. Plenty of travel, great road manners in most conditions and no real loss in MPG. Id also recommend the 275/70/17 option if your in for a wider tire.
 
The conservative side of me says 255s. The shallow side of me says 285s. The 275 at3. Maybe an option.

Lots of people love the 255's and I am not knocking them at all. But we have all seen people at the gym who work on that upper body and rarely work on the legs. And what does that look like? lolol
 
I just got a set of Falken A/T3Ws in 275/65/18 (32 inch) in load range E with about a 3/2 lift and 1.25 wheel spacers. Before alignment they rubbed the front bumper/fender, but it took me all of 5-10 minutes with a driver and razor blade to fix that. My alignment is tomorrow, so I'll never know if it wouldn't have rubbed with a proper alignment.

They are very quiet, and honestly, I notice no additional harshness, and maybe only a slight difference on hills with the skinny pedal.

I should add that they are pretty cheap, too!

My thought is don't worry about the cost too much. The cost per mile is very low.

After going through many tires on my Subarus, I realized that you get what you pay for (at least with on road tires).

When I picked my tires, I had the same ones on my short list plus the Falkin A/T3Ws. Decided to stick with my "get what you pay for" thought and bought the KO2s and loved them. Hard to find a negative review and classic look.
