help picking new tires

hey guys,
i have an 08 urban runner and since i've had a horrible time dealing with the stock bridgestone duelers, my wife has decided that i can get new tires for xmas present.

i've been reading around and it looks like every1 like the michelins ltx at2's. i just want a quality tire. so sick and tired of these shitty bridgestones.

i believe the urban runners come with P265/60R18 stock, which r the same ones as the limited model.

right now since i've only read about the michelins ltx at2's, they are my favored option.

i mostly do street driving, but i do intend on taking it offroad a lil bit. nothing hardcore serious off-road tho.

im not a car person and i dont really know anything about tires.

what do you guys recommend?

Not sure if LTX A/T-2 is available in your size, but that would be my first choice for your needs. Others to consider: LTX M/S (less off-road capable, but maybe slightly cheaper), Bridgestone Dueler REVO (highly regarded), and Goodyear Fortera series.

Aren't we a bit away from Christmas?

one of the big reasons why i wanna switch new tires is cuz i have the steering wheel vibration and after working with the dealers they pretty much said its the tire. and i've gotten the tires(all 4) related by bridgestone.

i want to get a quality tire and see if the vibration goes away. and since the toyota service manager said michelins are the best, i figured i'd go that route just to kinda see. if the vibration is still there, i can have more leverage to force him to fix it. the urbanrunner has like 10k miles on it and the tires have about 4-5k.

i saw your posts about the vibration issues with the 4runner/lexus and RR.

pretty much, i've had it with the vibration. a quality vehicle shouldn't have it. my 2005 honda civic that i purchased brand new hasn't had any problems at all.

for the michelins i'd like to get something wider.. maybe 275 or 285, provided i dont need to mod the car in any manner to accommodate them.

heh yeha xmas is a bit away but i'd like to do my research prior

275 & 285s are taller also, & would require trimming without a lift.

Yup, i would go with Michelins. Remember to tell us how you like the LTX A/T-2 because i am really interested in them!

Doubt it's the tires....it's sounds like no one wants to go through the hassle of ROAD FORCE BALANCING.......

i've taken it to two different toyota dealerships... multiple times. each time they kept the car for about 2-3 days and both dealerships have a roadforce machine and they say they've done it over and over again. so basically they are chalking it up to weird tires.

sux i know. i just dont wanna deal with them anymore.

oh cool. i was on the michellin site and looked up tires for the 4runner and all i got were the latitudes. the urban runner has 18" rims like the limited.

i'll have to take a look.

every1 says michellin's are the best tire.. period... im not a car person so i wouldn't know lol

Do yourself a favor and get the Cross Terrains. Smooth, quiet, grip well on dry and wet roads, fine in the snow, fine off-pavement, excellent mileage.

One of the things I see here on the forum is that people recommend off-road tires for folks who rarely if ever go off-road. It's overkill that kills the better mileage and comfort you get from a tire like the Cross Terrain.

Many folks used to 'denigrate' the Michelin LTX M&S tires as not being aggressive enough for off-road.

I had two sets of them, the first lasting not only 72K miles, but I took them in my Toyota pickup over real off-roads here in Colorado that would make folks cringe. Never a problem with the tire, never a rip, tare, blown sidewall, nada!

I've got the CT's on my 2007 V8 4Runner and I've been to places that most will not venture to even with aggressive BFG TAKO's.
