help please with wheel backspacing!?

So i want these pro comp steel wheels but dont know what size back spacing to get. they are 16x7 on 6 on 5.5" lugs. they have either 4", 4.25", or 4.5" back spacing. it also says they arent hub centric. would that be a problem?? also out of the back spacing sizes which would be better for runnin 33's or 34's in the future? and would i still need wheel spacers if i got these wheels for tires that size? i know its a ton of questions but im seriously debating these wheels right now, thanks in advance!!

check out all the sizes here... but i think 16x7's would be good for 285/75's or 315/75's right????

It seems that 7" is narrow. Most go for 8" or even 9" wide. You stock rims are 7 or 7.5. The T4R does well at about zero offset which usually means a backspace of about half the rim width. The hubcentric thing is very important.

I'm curious about the hub centric, what exactly is that and do we need to get hub centric wheels when purchasing aftermarket? Also, will a 9" be too wide and rub or does it not matter?

"Hub Centric" means that the inner opening of the wheel fits snugly around the hub. When you use a "hub centric" wheel, the weight is being supported not only by the lug nuts, but the hub as well.

The other option is "lug centric". In this instance, the only part of the rim that is supporting the weight of the vehicle are the lugs.

If you happen to get a wheel that has a larger opening than the size of the hub, then you can get adapter rings that will increase the diameter of the hub.

Obviously, the best option is to purchase a wheel that has the correct hub opening diameter.

So basically if we have the option, we should get hub centric?

so will the wheels that i have a link to work???? and should i get 16x7 or 16x8's??? will it make a difference??

If the goal is 285+ 8" wide is a better choice. The link is now dead, it just takes to you 4wheel parts homepage....

okay thanks and with the 16x8's what back spacing should i get??? ande will i still need wheel spacers for 285's and up or does the back spacing have anything to do with it???

I would look for a 3.5-4" backspace and you shouldn't need spacers. Now the backspace value will change a bit with rim width selection. It'll be approx. 1/2 the rim width or a .5" less. Look here to better understand the terminology: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp Also look at TireRack.com for some of thier explanations etc.

If you're going with 315's (which are too much without re-gearing etc IMHO) you may want 9" or 10". Many run 285's on 9" too so don't rule them out...

Truth is I have a clue but haven't done it. I'm just trying to point you in the right direction but keep in mind I haven't actually installed aftermarket rims on a 4Runner.

thanks a lot for the help i think the 16x8's with 4" back spacing will be perfect but what about the hub centric deal. the wheels say they arent so does that rule these wheels out or can it be fixed like jeremyH said u could get a ring?? and if u can get a ring are they exspensive

I don't know about the "rings". Perhaps Jeremy will chime in.

Lots of places sell them. usually not very expensive. The trick is getting the correct size to fit your wheel/hub combo. I'd look for a hub centric wheel myself.

well i have researched the rings and they arent all that bad and not expensive at all
im thinkin about jsut gettin the wheels i want and when i get the tires wrapped on em and balanced i will get discount tire to put the rings in.
