Help! Rear speakers stopped working.

I have a 2004 4runner with the 6 disc JBL system.

I installed a Kenwood subwoofer about 4 years ago and everything has been fine until the past couple of weeks.

This is my wifes car and when I drove it the other day I noticed non of the rear speakers are working. No rear door, sub, or tailgate speakers have sound.

I checked the fade control and it appears to work ok, but no sound from the rear at any setting.

I have an extended warrenty on the car but I want to see if I can locate the problem before I take it in. I am afraid they will give me a hassle on the subwoofer.

Thanks!
Ron

Sounds like the like the the rear channel output from the headunit to the factory amp has gone out, or the factory amps rear channel is out. I'm assuming the Kenwood sub setup is tied off of that as well and couldn't be the source of any of your problems.

I'm most inclined to say it's your headunit since you have basically 5 speakers out in the back. The rear doors, cargo area, and sub speakers all receive the rear channel signal and is divied up from there. The Kenwood I'm sure is tapped from the exhisting sub speaker line. Therefore nothing works.

Take it back to the dealer. They should replace the headunit for you. If you feel better about it, take out the Kenwood equipment if you think that they'll hassle you about it. Hey, if it means saving somewhere around $5-700 on a new radio, that'd be worth my time before taking it in.
