help removing stubborn running boards!!

So i finally listened.. i got rid of my nasty bush guard and running boards.. however the damn running boards.. well the two front bolts on each one (Nearest the engine) were unaccessible. There are little metal bracket which are held in by the bolts.. the bolts are rusted/rounded etc. here are some pics.. any idea how i can get these off?? Maybe i just use the mounts and fab up some sort of side step.. or maybe mount my hi-lift there

That's a threaded hole you're looking at. Put a socket on the bolt head (on the other side) and the bolt will come out. The other one is just a stud and helps you get it lined up in place. So back the OME bolt out and that bracket will fall right out.

sawzall?? no tom has it right. spray the hell out of it, leave it overnight. get a socket on there and use a cheater bar if you have to. the sawzall is your last resort. however if you're a patient man you could get in there with just a hand held metal blade

agghh you guys are the best, thanks for the quick answers.. i just ran back out there and took care of it. I thought that one part of the bracket was a nut but it was just where the bolt threads in.. so i was working that for longer then i would like to admit thanks again for clearing up my confusion

i still cannot figure out how to remove that bolt from the metal bracket. Could you help me figure out how to do it? i have a 98 limited. thank you thank you

I had trouble with mine too, it was freezing cold when I took mine off so I went half ass and just took a grinder to them as close to the top as possible. I figured that was better than the full bracket hanging out from underneath. When it warms up ill attack them again with pb blaster, and a torch

Did you read the thread? Don't mistake the welded nut for something you can turn. Look for a bolt head on the other side. Turn that.

If that isn't the problem, then Sawzall. (Yeah, I made that mistake, too--briefly.)

it was actually so simpo i was overthinking it lol. i took the last bolt off in a second!. looks much better without those boards! thank you for your input !!
