I'm about to take the plunge on a 2006 Scion HU and want to know if it has the two antenna plugs like the 2005. Anyone???

I just did this mod......it only has 1 antennae jack. As far as I can tell, it gets reception just as good as the stock HU with the two plugs. I just taped the small one back. I am sure you can get an adapter for this.

T4RMatt - did you try pulling the little plate off the back of the radio that has the hole for the antenna plug in it. On the old head units there is a second plug under the plate but the design for the '06 HU is a bit different - which is why I posted the question. Anyone actually pulled the back off the '06 HU to see what's hidden back there?

I just did this. However, I had the install job done at a local audio place. We noticed there is a secondary antenna jack on top of the one that is showing. All you have to do is take some needle nose pliers and pull back the little plate and there is the second jack on the '06 radio (with the control knob). You then just need to cut it off. I picked up the radio on ebay for $75.00 plus shipping. For what I paid, it's a great deal. Once you dial in the SSP and then select "X-B" as the vehicle (like someone suggested) the sound is a marked improvment over that crappy base unit. For the money-it's a great mod!

Outstanding. Thanks for the information. My new '06 Scion HU should arrive Monday and I plan to do the install myself using the great instructions found here. Thanks again cknsls! :awais:

I Just installed an 05 Scion cd in my 04 Runner. What a difference!! I did not drill out the second antenna jack and my reception is just as good as it was before. I am not sure if anyone has posted the exact function of the second antenna jack.

I did it myself in about 45 minutes. I got mine for $32 + $10 Shipping on ebay from a new member with a 0 rating. What a steal!!

I found the Xb or Xc settings sound similar. The Xc seems to have a little more highs to go with the bass of the Xb. JMO.

Good luck thou. You should enjoy the new radio.

Ugh.....now that I know there is a second plug I will have to tear down the dash again.......oh well, its all in good fun. :D

For the '06 SCION RADIO, if you look closely through the "slots" of the radio by the jack, you can actually see the second one. And that little plate is real thin and just bends back! If you do it your self you can just cut it off with some shears or something.

About 45 minutes for the complete swap of the Scion for the stock headunit. As everyone has said, the difference in sound is quite remarkable.

Got my Scion 2006 HU on eBay for $61. Best bucks I've spent in quite a while.

Now the question - and I thought I saw it here before but now I can't find it - how do I program the 2006 HU to read 4Runner instead of Scion? I found the instructions for the 2005 radios but the 2006 doesn't have the same buttons. Anyone??

Dangit, I really want to replace that stock HU but I can't get over the fact that the Scion ones have a Scion badge on them. Is that the case with the radios you guys are installing?

Yes, it's says Scion-but the radio looks good. Whats the problem?

No real problem - I'm just anal about that stuff. :bash:

I do agree that it looks sweet though - I may just get over the Scion bit. :D

Mine has the Scion lettering on the upper left side. I may see if I can get it off without damaging the HU but I haven't tried yet. I assume it would have to be a solvent of some kind. In the meantime, it sounds better by far and that was my goal. That means more than the Scion badging to me.

OK, now that several of us have installed the Scion HU, has anybody changed out the front speakers? Which brand/type? Or do you think it's even worth the effort? Let's hear your thoughts!!
