Help! Someone got me!

I hope someone out there can help me? I came home after work today to wash my 2 week old 2006 Black T4R Limited and found that someone had hit the passengers side front bumper. It looks as if a wheel hit it as someone was backing out because there was rubber on my rim as well. (And NO, I didn't park somplace stupid, I always park in a spot as far away from others as possible, but apparently not far enough). It ripped the fender from the mount in the wheel well, put two large scratches on the bumper cover and several smaller scuff marks on the bumper cover. I got most of the small stuff out, but in ripping the cover back it looks as if the plastic warped in at least two spots.

So the question is this, does anyone know how much a new bumper cover is going to cost me, and how difficult would it be to install? I've had been turning a wrench on my 1993 T4R for over 166k, but the new one has so much plastic on it I'm not sure if I want to try it or not. I'm just sick about this, I haven't even had it a month and someone does a hit and run.

If anyone has any info on the cost and installation procedure I'd really appreicate it. I'll be calling the stealer tomorrow but I thought you guys might have some advice to share?

You can check partznet for the pieces you need.

Also --- did you file a police report?? It may be a good idea. I know nothing will probably come of it --- but there is always that slim slim chance that the other person had some damage as well .... and ends up taking theirs to a local body shop. That may be traceable ..... but --- of course, it is a shot in the dark.

Anyhow --- sorry to hear about it dude. I had my 2005 SE for one month before someome rear-ended me at 20-25 MPH. The guy did not have insurance. I claimed it on my insurance, so I only had to pay my $500 deductable (which I still have not gotten back from the other dude ...). If I paid out of the pocket, it would have been $6500 in repairs.

Thanks UoD,

I'll give partznet a shot. I didn't file a police report because I didn't notice it on the passengers side until I got home today to wash it. I'm really only guessing as to what happened, but the rubber scuffs on my rim make me think that as someone was backing out they hit me with their tire?

My 1993 got rear-ended by a lady that was reaching down to pick up her kids toy. I sometimes wonder if 4-Runners are idiot magnets. Somehow, no matter how hard I try to keep them nice someone always ends up running into me.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get your SE repaired and that it didn't cost you all that much. I'm not sure if I'll claim this one or not? I'll have to see how much the cover is, and decide if I can replace it myself.

I recently had to get a new bumper due to a rock that jumped out of nowhere while off-roading :). I ended up with a small dent in the fron quarter panel and apparently some damage behind one of the headlights. Total to bring it in for repairs was in the neighborhood of $1500. Part of this was to replace the plastic bumper cover, which was around $200 to $300, but this might not be painted.

I had a few bumper covers replaced on Lexus RX's - that seems to be an idiot magnet, too. Typical number was $600-$700 painted and installed.

Won't insurance cover something like this?? Do they just automatically assume that you did it yourself and are trying to cover it up?? My buddies '06 F-250 got keyed about 6 months after he got it and the insurance payed in full.

Damn! Sorry to hear this. I did replaced the front bumper cover for a 2005 last year and I believe there's not much different between the two. The bumper skin is relatively cheap. It cost me $158.xx as wholesale price at local Toyota dealer. Installation is straight forward, and it took appx 2.5 hours to remove and insall. All you need is some basic hand tools, ratchet and metric sockets are very helpful. Paint job will cost you somewhere between $180-$220 bucks. GOOD LUCK

OUTRNNR,

Yes my insurance would probably cover this but they would repair rather than replace the bumper cover. That's a problem because I have never seen a painted bumper that didn't crack over time. I would perfer just to spend the money and do it right.

I haven't had a chance to contact the dealer about this yet, but I am concerned that it might not come painted, and then it's the same issue of the paint cracking after its painted.

Koz - Can you point me in the right direction for the bumper guards?

Thanks everyone for your help!

X6RUNNER,

Thanks for the numbers. So it comes unpainted? After you had it painted how well did the paint hold up? I've got a good body shop that I deal with here, I'll check with them too.
