Earlier today, I notice a rear squeaking noise every time when i hit the brakes hard so I took off the rear brake pads and inspected them. They still have plenty of of life left and are OEM factory toyota pads. I grease them up thinking that will fix the problem but it didn't. One thing i also notice is that when I was using my hand to push down on the bumper i can duplicate the squeaking noise again. I have bilstein shocks and extended rear sway bar links that i had on about a year ago. Anyone know the problem? sway bar bushing?

Disconnect your sway bar and see if it stops. I had a horrible squeak coming from my rear and it turned out to be heim joints on my extended links. I just ended up removing the sway bar entirely. Now its dead quiet and I couldn't be happier. Plus I could always replace them and throw it back on if I want.

so i noticed my rear sway bar is broken. you removed yours, any change in the ride quality?..whats the function of the sway bar?
am wondering if i shuold replace the broken rear sway bar, bought the car used in 2012, not sure when the sway bar broke

Not much change at all however I am on a much stronger suspension now than the factory stuff. I pulled my front one a long time ago. The sway bar basically provides a support along the axle that prevents one side from flexing much more than the other which can lead to body roll. It's much more noticeable with the independent front suspension. By joining both sides via the sway bar you can't have one wheel go up without it effecting the other. When it's disconnected whatever happens to one side will not effect the other until the suspension reaches its limit.
