HELP - Tire Noise Question

I just picked up a 2017 Trail Premium with 57,000 miles. She has a Rough Country 3"/2" lift/leveling kit and Falkner Wilpeak AT 285/70/R17s with a lot of life left in them. I'm pretty surprised at how loud the tires are. For the last 3 years I've been driving an F-150 with a 2" lift and 36" BFG KO2s. I had no noticeable road noise with the F150 and the big K02s.

What's the difference? Is it the truck (better sound dampening in the Ford)? Or is it the tires? Are KO2s inherently quieter?

I think that everything should be fairly comparable - the tires and vehicle in terms of road noise. You might want to check alignment and balance if not recently done or if the tires have worn unevenly. Certainly the All terrain tires will have more vibrations than a highway tire, but if you’ve had that experience before something might be off

^ What he said. Generally speaking, if over time tires wear well, alignment is probably not the issue.

If the F150 you drove was newer, say 2015+, then you have to consider cabin insulation. I had a 2016 F150 and cabin insulation was fantastic. Even the windows were sound-deadening (forgot the terminology Ford uses). The 4runner is pretty quiet, but not as quiet as my F150 was, so there's that, too.

Could also be that the previous owner didn't rotate, or only rotated front to rear.

I have always found that a cross rotation (RR-RF-LR-LF, add a spare in if you rotate 5) keeps tires quiet.

I shake my head when a chevy with street tires goes by with the wocka wocka of unrotated tires.

Right inflation psi helps.
