Help to diagnose no 4wd

Aloha,
Where are the logical places to start looking to diagnose a 4wd that isn't engaging? Simple first, and I 'll work from there.

OK, first step in diagnosing the problem is to tell us what type of 4Runner you have.

Sorry about that. I have a 1992 4Runner SR5, 3.0 engine, Auto transmission and about 291K on the odometer. I'm hoping the lack of 4wd will be a linkage, solenoid, or even a fuse. Any ideas
