Help! TomTom is going haywire

Hey all,

I need some help or advice about the crappy TomTom that some of us have.

As of yesterday, it appears stuck in this endless loop of malfunction. I get the black screen with "TomTom", then a blank black screen, then a yellow and blue screen that appears to be loading when you look at the bottom (it has that little progress meter that shows something loading). Then it repeats this endless loop and never goes anywhere.

I've tried resetting it, turning it on and off, etc but nothing works.

Any help or suggestions?

This thing sucks.

My Tomtom did the same thing once. I first took it out of the head unit and tried to power it down, but it didn't respond to the power nor reset button. I set the unit aside and let it continue the cycle until the battery died. Voil

It looks like you can download software updates for Tom-Tom via their website at:

Worth a try if you haven't done it already.

There is no update for that sd card i was having a lot of trouble. called tom tom they were very helpful but could't get it going went to the dealer and they gave me a new sd card so far so good. your right about the unit being a peace of crap

I have the corrupted blue SD card, so the dealer ordered me the black SD card which should solve the problem.

However (and why I didn't do this when I first bought the truck I will never know) I stopped by a nice car stereo shop and checked out full-size NAV systems. Guys there were very cool, and by the time I left they had offered to replace the TomTom with a full size Pioneer unit for $750, installed. They tell me it's usually $1100 so I'm gonna research it on the net.

Pioneer was good when I was in high school in the mid-80s but know nothing about them now.

Thoughts?

Buy a Garmin Nuvi there good to go and work and work and work.
Also if needed you can get Garmin support with a real human who speaks good ENGLISH.

Don't waste your money on a dash unit, They also need to be updated and it's not as easy as using your USB on your computer with a Garmin Nuvi. You have to get a DVD and it's not a slam dunk.
