Help! Toyota 4runner won't start.

I am new to the board, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have 3 Toyotas. 2000 4runner Limited. 2011 4runner SR5, and a 2008 Tacoma.

My issue is with my 2000 4runner. (204,838 miles) I go to crank it and it turns over strong, but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump running during startup so I don't think it's that. Any ideas?

Have you done any recent work? Any connectors or vacuum hoses you forgot to hook up? Sometimes it's just the easy stuff.

Did it just randomly decide not to start, or been getting worse over time?

It started all of the sudden. Was sitting in the Home Depot lot and turned it off. Took turning it over 4 or 5 times before it started, drove it home and parked it. Didn't think about it much, then got into it to go somewhere else and it wouldn't start at all. Turned it over over and over and it hasn't started but once since.

What are CEL's?

Check Engine Light. You should see the light on when you turn the key over (but not start engine) and once the engine is running it goes off unless you have an issue.

However with a non-running engine it's impossible to check them without a scan gauge or one of those Bluetooth ones from Amazon/Ebay. I picked one up for my own non-start issue for $25, well worth it.

To check for spark, remove one of the boots on the driver's side engine (preferrably #2, the one easiest to get to in front) and pull out the spark plug as well. Might need some long needle nose pliers or a mechanic's magnet stick, thing (I forget what they are called) to get the plug out. Then put them back together and hold it against the frame. Make sure it's contacting the metal and not near anything important! Have a friend crank it over a couple of times until you see a spark or two from the plug. If you try this a couple of times and nothing shows, you have no spark. If yes, proceed to fuel/MAF sensor issues.

Or, get one of these (they can be hard to see and picky sometimes though):
