I was just going for another night ride when i noticed this. I dont know if it was in the on or off position, but I did touch it. I left it in the on position and im back inside the house.

I drove fine with it on.

But im still stumped. What is it?

Looks like a bolt insert where the previous owner did a switch install through it. He may have wired it through a mod and uninstalled/removed from the 4R prior to sale of said 4Runner if you're saying nothing's changed after turning it on by mistake. Look inside the hood and see if you can see anything out of place in regard to mods left behind from previous owner. If not then no worries.

On the upside, you now have a switch that can be used for your mods. Just need to wire it up and you're done. Just need to be careful removing/tilting the cover with the switch. Looks like the only thing that would stay behind is the red colored tip. Everything else goes with the cover.

It could be a start kill switch. I had one in my miata, so that the car wouldn't even start without completing the circuit. :becky:

But it could be anything...

See where the wires lead to.

Someone added a switch for a light or some type of modification.
Pop that panel down and see if it has wires going to the terminals of the switch. If no wires, you already have a mounted switch for future mods and nothing to worry about.

If wires are fastened to the terminals, you'll need to trace them down and see where they lead to. You will probably need another person to help ID where they are going, especially if they go through the firewall into the engine bay.

Still something a bit funny here, why would someone add a switch for the factory DVD unit????

Are you sure that's where it goes to?

Looks like it goes to the missing DVD player that was on the roof.(Has the screens on the Driver and Passenger headrests.)...

So now Im thinking about finding one of the factory DVD units if they were factory. Ill post pics later on, but more info would be appreciated too :)

If it does indeed go to a DVD unit, it could be possible that the switch is to constant power, or power when the cars in accessory mode. So if they're camping, they could have the car off, and have the DVD unit working.. Or have the ability to turn on/off the DVD unit so the kids can't fiddle with it..

OP, find out where the other side of the switch goes to.
