Help with Clock problem on my '99 Limited

Since I bought the car 2 weeks ago, I've had an issue with the clock going out and my hatch-window switch not working. (I know it's at the switch because it still ALWAYS works with the remote/key in hatch). Anyway, I figured that the connection was just loose and that I'd fix it when I took the center trim area apart to replace the climate control bulbs...

So I finally got the climate control bulbs from Toyota and changed them this morning (took like 5 mins.) All is well on that front.

The window switch works fine now, but the clock is still acting up. I made sure that the harness plug was connected securely, and the clock worked fine even after I reassembled all of the trim. I started the car and checked everything, turned it off and put my screwdrivers away... came back, turned the key and NO clock. :nono:

Anybody have any ideas?? Might I need to pop the clock out of the trim and dissect it? Is there even anything that can come loose inside the clock assembly?

I love wearing a nice watch, but hate for little stuff not to work in my cars.

yes, there's a couple of threads on it. I've done it myself by accident. you plugged the clock back into the "dead" socket. there's an extra one back there that has no function (That I've heard of) pull the trim back off and look for the other socket. that should do it

When mine started to had that problem, I usually hit it a few times and she comes back.. But as time went, hitting it a few times didn't do the trick anymore.

I asked how much it would be to replace the clock at the dealership and they wanted $300 for an clock but instead, I picked an used one for $30..

Thanks, but that's not it. The 'dead socket' doesn't even have pins on mine and wouldn't 'keep' the plug had I even tried to use it.

As I mentioned, the clock worked until I restarted the car... so if it were in the wrong socket the whole time my clock nor my rear window would not have worked when tested.

That's it! Exact symptoms, it came back on once this weekend... for 30 seconds

Interestingly, there must be at least two different configurations for how the third-generation Toyota 4Runner digital clock plugs into the center cluster.

I read all the DIYs and even then, mine was different (e.g., my center cluster has screws, others didn't and my center cluster does NOT have the infamous "dummy" clock harness connector socket).

To help out, and give back to the forum since I'm a newbie here, I wrote up my first DIY with 50 pictures detailing every step of the way.
