help with component speaker install on 2003

I need help with installing some Hertz component speakers in a 2003 4runner with the base factory system with. I removed the factory tweeter and 6x9 coaxial speakers and spliced into the red and white wires on the passenger side and the blue green and blue wires on the drivers side (I think those were the colors, but that is the best of my recollection). Then the speakers that I bough came with two crossovers. THe first way I wired it was to run one crossover to the tweeter and one to the woofer, then I called the store I bought them from and they said to only use one crossover, so I did that on one side and still no sound from the front speakers. I am assuming that I have something wrong since the factory speakers were also components, but I can't understand how it is supposed to work. Anyone that has done this install themselves please chime in.

that should be the color for the speaker wire for polarity.
on the crossover part, have the input wire from the speaker wire, the tweeter to the tweeter and the mid to mid, simple as that. one per side. recheck the connection if its correct, did u test the speakers before u hook them up? also what model hertz speakers u got?
