Help with Extended Warranty Companies

Anyone get Extended Warranty Bumper to Bumper from either Toyota or a after market company? I'm looking at 2012 4runner with 35,600 loaded so I'm looking for best Platinum 8/125 or close that covers everything.. Anyone have a experience with either , and the cost. I read on here going thru a stealer you get rip.. but if they stand behind it more then a aftermarket.. it's worth it. I don't have a break down on what Toyota covers.. I have a aftermarket and seems you have to be a lawyer and a CIS agent to figure it out with all these ifs, and buts..

We purchased the Toyota extended warranty with my husband's Tundra in 2007 since it was the first full-size model and we were very happy with the 2 times we had to use it.

No questions, no b/s, no deductible.

I bought one with my current Certified/Used 4Runner.

Unless something has changed that I'm unaware of, I recommend the Toyota extended warranty.

I forgot to add that we got a really great price through their "Costco" pricing. I think it was $1299 for 7 yrs/100k and it paid for itself over the 2 times we needed to use it.

Thanks on the info.. But I'm buying from a non-Toyota dealership and it's not CPO thru this Nissan dealer only can be if it was thru Toyota..as I understand.. never done this before.. I tried to contact toy on line but it's crazy and keep getting run around and no one to speak to about it. The dealer offered me a private warranty company but after "trying" to read it. I'd have to be a lawyer.. so I wasn't really happy with it.. I wish I had someone explain how to get this 2012 warrantied thru Toyota extended policy..

Independent extended warranty companies are hinky. Not uncommon to sell warranty's then close up shop several years later when claim payouts start accumulating.
Unless it is a manufacturers's warranty, I'd opt out.
How much is asking price of truck?
Consider buying from CarMax as they offer extended warranties which are honored.

call around to several Toyota dealers and ask for F&I person or whoever sells Toyota VSA's.

get pricing from several and go from there. picked up 2 VSA's from a dealer out of town. I picked a 7/100 for a 14 rav4 for ~$1k, and the 14 4runner 7/125 for ~$1300.

I called around the whole state to get pricing btw.

edit : you can still get a VSA up to 3yrs/36k miles, but as you get closer to the cutoff, the pricing goes up.

As to whether to buy an EW, you'll never get a consensus. Some do, some don't. It's insurance, period. Your call.

As to what to buy, I suggest that if you do buy, buy only Toyota. I've reads lots and lots of horror stories re non-oem warranties.

what is the "costco" pricing? for costco members?

Yes. Some dealerships advertise that they'll give discounts for various add-ons and sometimes on new vehicles if you have a membership. At the time we bought the Tundra, they were offering a discount.

I'm unsure if they still do, it's been a while since we bought a brand new car and when we asked about the discount when I bought my used 4Runner at Earnhardt Toyota, the guy laughed at us and we figured that they only give discounts on new vehicle purchases or it wasn't available anymore. We just paid for the extended warranty and moved on.

Also, if you intend to purchase GAP insurance, Toyota's is $595 and my credit union's is $250 and they pay 100%. Check before you go, that's a huge difference.

also forgot about this, if this is a used vehicle, Toyota does have a VSA that covers that:

also the 4runner is in T3 pricing tier, usually the bigger vehicles are in T4, smaller in T2 (ie Tacoma).
