Help with Focal Polyglass V2

Hi,

I just had a system installed in my 2002 4Runner:

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X891
Focal Polyglass 165 V2
Audison SRx3 (For front and Sub)
Boston G210SS sub

The speakers are in the factory locations and the tweeters are very harsh and hurt my ears at anything but a soft volume. I've tried adjusting the treble with the Kenwood controls and aside from pulling the treble way down (which sounds horrible as well) I can't tune out the harshness. Do the speakers need break in time? Or is this the way they are?

The dealer says it's because the factory location for the tweeters is too high and any tweeter will sound harsh.

Any advice on what I should do?

change the tweeter setting on the focal crossover itself, also make sure the loud is off on the deck and on the amp the fequency is set at 80hz, on my setup, i have the jl audio 300/4, setted everything at 80hz front and back, but on my deck pioneer 8600, i put the front at 100hz and the rear at 125hz. hope that helps u.

Pallllllleeeeeze..... that's an inaccurate generalization by someone not in the know trying to sound smart. So did the dealer tell you to put your shirt sleeve over the tweeter location to make them sound less harsh???? Because that wil work. Ugh.
Seriously though...
I don't know about yours, but YES, some tweeters require break-in periods to smooooov out a bit. Are those titanium dome or silk dome tweets? Titanium tend to be a bit harsher.
Riceandpho has some good ideas. Tweak the EQ, see what sounds the best.

+1 with what atomic said..

harshness is just bad tweeter response, or a strong crossover slope..

you can get rid of that kind of sound 90% of the time with cross overs and EQ's

Thanks all. I've been playing with the cross overs and eqs and it's starting to get better. The tweeters do seem to be changing (for the good) as they break in. I'm going to look at moving the tweeters as well.
