help with front lift!

just attempted to install my 99 tall coils up front and it took about 5 hours.... i ended up giving up and putting the old coil back in... embarrassing i know.

i was following the right up on how to do it without a coil compressor but it didnt work for me, i could push down the LCA down far enough for the coil and shock to fall into place. i then rented some coil compressors but that didnt work either because they would get in the way when you try and get the coil in...

I honestly have no idea how this is even possible and the 99 tall coils seem to be about an inch or maybe even 2 longer than stock...

help please haha im frustrated and dont want to take it to a shop

Undo the four bolts under the rotor and hub assy, move the rotor and hub to the left and step down with your foot on the lower control.arm.

You have to lay down and look under the rotor to see the bolts im talking about . They are 14 mm, put a jack under the arm and apply pressure to make it easier to get those bolts out also make sure you dropped the.sway bar

I did all that but the coils just wouldnt fit... i had my dad helping too.

if i manged it with 882s then 99s should slide right in... you unbolted the sway bar end links? if that dont work unbolt the tie rod ends

I think we both misunderstood , you should go to a shop and pay the $ 60 to get them to assemble you're struts and then try it

Well you gave it a good try, but obviously they won't fit. I say you just give up and i'll take em off your hands for you.

Not very helpful man, the guy is obviously having a hard time. How about we try to give him some advice, rather than take advantage of his bad situation to score cheap parts. :bash:

This is his 3rd thread in 3 days about these coils. I've asked in him in the other threads if he could post where he got them at, but he never responds.

Not trying to be an jerk, just trying to learn like everybody else, and maybe make a joke everynow and then :cheers:

I bought them off a forum member for 150 with shipping. theres another set in the classifieds right now i think. you just have to look for them.

if i went to a shop to get the shock and coil put together what exactly do i need to take to the shop?

I just dont get what is going to keep them together...

Im thinking about just taking my car to the shop and telling them to do it if i cant figure it out...

or does anyone live in san diego that wants to help me out? haha

You could try this: assemble the strut, take off spring compressors, put strut on the truck and attach top bolts, use spring compressor to shorten the strut assembly enough to put in the bottom bolt. It's a little goofy to use a spring compressor while it's on the truck, but it worked ok for me. You only need to compress it a little bit.

that sounds like it just might work.... i had trouble getting the shock throough the hole at the top so i just dont know how i would get the bolt on it... and i found that there wasnt much rooom for spring compressors while it was on the truck unless you just used one which is dangerous (i tried it)

if you got the bottom bolt in start jacking the lower control arm to compress the coil

If you just go to the shop take your shocks ,top plate , lower coil rest , coil , shock bushings , and top nut .

I did the same as you , and found that the $ 60 is cheaper then my time and the amount of money I now have in broken spring compressors

There's no way they shouldn't fit, so I'm thinking you may be doing something wrong. Any time something doesnt work for me the first few times I do a reset; take it all back apart, lay it on the ground, go inside and get a glass of your favorite beverage, 10 deep breaths, consult the write up, and go back out and try again. Sounds silly but it's worked every time I've been frustrated in that situation.

hahah i literally did this... still didnt work and wasnt doing anything wrong. you have no idea how frustrated i am. guess ill take it to the shop

Cool, thanks for the info. And I hope you realize I was just joking wrt to you selling them. I'm just as curious to see what they look like on your truck as everyone else. Wish I could be of help, but unfortunately thats not the case. If I come across any other write-ups i'll definately send them your way.

when i try agian ill definately post some picks. i called my shop and hes asking 100 to do it all for me.... a little steep so ill give it another go tommorow night and see how it goes. theres a kraigen a minute from my house and they rent out spring compressors for free so im going to try a different one that i think might work a little better.
