Help with my 4wd shifter

Sorry guys, but I have no 4wd position stickers on my shifter nor the sticker on the glove box. This is my 1st 4wd. I have used the 4wd to get around in this crazy snow, but don't know if I've been in 4hi or 4lo. Can someone help me? Where are the shifts for what? A pic or explanation is greatly appreciated. It's an '89.

BTW, you should be able to tell if you're in 4hi or 4lo just by the feel of the truck when it's moving (it's slower and torquier)

Thanks guy, I'm still a bit confused though. It seems like my shifter is like this:

2hi...4hi

...N..

......4lo

I cant pull the lever down in the left column, it only goes to the right and once in the right column, I can push up or pull down. The 4wd light comes on once I get into the right column. In this case, is 4hi up or down? Does this seem right? Did Toyota make a transfer case like this?

Sure you're not in the 4hi position?

Sounds like you are, and going to the right allows you to go up towards 4lo...

Sometimes the shifter is very hard to push back up to 2hi on my truck because the drivetrain binds up. Just start with the shifter in the left most position and while in drive and slowly creeping forward and in reverse slowly creeping backwards put a good amount of force on the shifter towards the dash and see if it doesn't pop up into 2wd.

I bet its stuck in 4hi and the PO couldn't move it so he just left it there...
