help with piaa driving lights wiring

hey guys i just installed a set of piaa 6252 driving lights on my o4runner ,install went well the problem is i tapped the power switch wire to the highbeam 10 amp fuse and it stays hot even when i switch to lowbeam .does anyone know on this model 04 4runner where i can tap into so the lights (only) come on with the highbeam lights.thanks rick in md

hey lance this is rick ,thanks for the reply i did use a tester on the highbeam light sockets and both sides where hot even when the lights are on low beam so i guess these must turn on with the ground ? that is why i am confussed because the highbeam fuses stay hot also . i need someone who has wiring expertise on this system or maybe someone can tell me where to tap in because i am not a expert by no means is there a tech on this forum ?? please help thanks rick

i just wired the relay into my parking lights so i would not be restricted to only have the driving lights on with the high beams and beside it was a much easier install

For power to the power switch I tapped into the lighter.

hey lance ,i just want to say thank you so much for the wiring diagram all i have to do now is get some time to hook my lights up the right way . i have searched for weeks and sent out about a hundred emails and post and no one had a answer and that is why you are the man!!! by the way where did you get it ? .thanks again for everyones help the lights have been working fine i just want them to go off when i turn the low beams on thats why i needed the diagram. thanks all you 4runner lovers ,rick in md.

rick, i was lucky enough to swipe a copy of the wiring diagrams (most of it - apparently i missed a few... doh!).

anyway, i have no clue why toyota decided not to include this important info in their service manual but i needed it awhile back myself (not necessarily for the headhights). so i just got lucky.

sorry i didn't just go thru my pdf's but i have about 100+ of them (why they broke it down like that... i have no clue). but after figuring out that you were still unable to get it, i decided to go and search for myself

i'm glad that it helped ya enjoy those new piaa's! btw don't forget to post a follow up on either site w/ some cool photos!

I know this is an old thread, but I'd rather dig it up than start a new one.

In wiring my driving lights, I ran into the same problem as the OP. The high beam fuse is HOT when the headlights are on, and the high beam switch switches the negative side. I was hoping to use an add-a-fuse off the high beam, but that is out. What is the best place to get the signal to my relay, can be positive or negative.

Found my solution. It is a work around and not my ideal, but it is better than hacking into the factory wiring.

I'm going to use an extension, commonly used in HID retrofits, only I'm going to put it between the factory plug and the bulb, and splice off of it to get my switched ground for my relay. I'll keep my add-a-fuse for the B+ since it is already there and having the fuse is extra protection. I may add a factory tacoma fog light switch later on, if I can find one at a reasonable price...
