Help with removing a 2019 TRD Pro rack.

So, a few things to take note of: there are two locations per hole that can leak water. One is down the throat of the plastic tubes (where the bolt threads in) and the hole around the plastic tube itself.

Also, I WOULD NOT use silicone to seal anything, temporary or otherwise. Besides being difficult to remove, silicone will harden and retract eventually, and it can weaken and remove paint. Use butyl rubber, it is an effective seal and stays pliant for years. It's basically the consistency of sticky tack.

There are options for roof rack delete kits if you want to keep the rack off for good. They are little plates that come with shorter bolts.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a practical roof rack delete kit that can be put on or taken off easily? I don't have a problem taking off a couple of bolts, washers, etc.. But it could get old quickly if I start needing to use the rack more often. I figure I might as well drop the weight, additional height, and whatever impact it has on MPGs...

I think what you're asking for is like a quick-disconnect roof rack? Something that will mount to and fill the roof holes, but provide a way to quickly remove in order to save space and MPG.

To my knowledge I don't think that exists. You might have to get creative with existing racks or come up with your own solution. Maybe you can swap on a low-profile, factory roof rack and then add quick disconnecting hardware for like a roof basket or something. There's a few people selling their stock racks in the classifieds. Mine sold for about $100.

Remember, what's easy for you to remove is also easy for a thief.

I don’t care for the roof rack myself. If I trade my 17 Pro in on a 2020 I hope they don’t have it on. It if it does I will have to check with the Toyota to let them deal with removing it.

Looks like I will just go with a delete kit for the time being. Tory, you mentioned using butyl rubber. Does that come in a liquid/semi-liquid form or only the trim-style gasket tubing? Please excuse my ignorance on this. Thanks!

I can't speak for the liquid stuff in a tube. Mine came in a roll of flat tape, but the shape is sort of irrelevant as it will mold into anything you need. It has the same consistency as sticky-tack and it NEVER cures. The liquid stuff might cure and that's not what you want. Butyl tape can be removed years afterward without leaving residue or pulling off paint.

you need to loosen all the bolts first do not remove, once all bolts are loosen then start to remove one by one there is a peace in the back of the rack that makes it come apart so you will have two L shapes and a connecter piece

It is not for sale, I asked the owner and he is keeping it for future sale of the Runner.

I’m working to remove my TRD Pro basket (2020). Researching how to on this forum... might be a couple weeks before I tackle it.
Basket is Free to good home (if you pay shipping or pick it up in MA). Note that it’s a little dented on the back side of rack. Dealer appears to have backed into something and I did not notice until a week into ownership...

Here is the official installation instructions from Toyota for the pro rack. This applies if you are removing pro rack as well. They address the issue in a caution section at the end of page 2. We have had several come in that we have had to drop the headliner to retrieve the plates.
