Help with SPP 80 watt yellow fogs

I am awaiting the arrival of my SPP 80 watt yellow fog light bulbs. After much searching on this site I have elected to go with Silverstar Ultras for both low and high beams and the SPP for fogs. I saw one member say that you may want to purchase "hi-temp sockets" for these fog light bulbs. I dont want to sound stupid but can someone tell me what this means? I dont think he means replacing the fog light housing, and I know the bulb is all one piece? Any insight would be appreciated.

You plug your new 80watt bulb into the "hi-temp sockets", then normally the socket has an adapter to plug into your factory harness and sometimes also to your battery. If the newer higher wattage bulb toasts the hi-temp socket, it isn't such a big deal as if it burnt your factory harness.

i had the lower wattage version for mine and they lasted about 2 years? totally didn't want to mess with the electrical, etc with the higher wattage bulbs. if i remember right, the guy at SPP said the higher wattage could burn your wiring out, like Sharp has said, so i went with the standard wattage.

What was the light like with the lower wattage compared to the stock bulbs?

I ran the 80 watts all the time when I had my headlights on and it ended up melting the stock harness. Be sure to get the hi-temp plugs. They have the ones that are direct plug and play on ebay.

I run 80 Watt Polar Yellow in fogs with stock harness for 2 years now and no problems what so ever. I turn them on only in fog, snow or if there is snow on the pavent, though.

Running high wattage lights on a harness with a relay is a good idea. Your stock wiring triggers the relay, which connects your lights to power through heavier duty wiring. Your lights will burn brighter because the larger wire with less distance has a smaller resistance and smaller voltage drop. This increases the voltage on your lights. The only drawback is that you have to find a good fused source of power. I installed an extra distribution box in my Jeep for lighting, CB, alarm, inverter, etc...

I put a pair of 100W backup lights on my Jeep. Here is the schematic I used. My switch has a center off position to disable the light altogether.
