help with stereo install...my new 4runner

ok here is the deal...i just received my dads 97 4runner and i swear to you the man has not taken care of the car at all. i have had one hell of a time installing a sony head unit, 2 12 inch audiobahn subs, and a visonik 1400 watt amp. i just finished it tonight but i am having tons of difficulty. and help or advice from some seasoned vets would be amazing.

1) i cannot find a decent grounding spot for my head unit or amp.

2) my rear and door speakers somehow got wired to where they only work with the headlights on...meaning to listen to my freakin radio i have to have at least the parking lights on at all times.

3) there is a ton of noise coming through the speakers now...most likely due to a bad ground.

please let me know what in the world is goin on!!!

did u use a harness to wire up the radio?
1 the ground for the radio use the harness, and for the amp find something metal, if back seat use seat bolt.
2 u sure u didnt mistake the illumination wire for the constant ignition wire? that might be the cause of radio only works with lights on.
3 is the ground, are they comming from door speakers? or subs? bad ground connection.
4 return all the stuff u got and buy better stuff. pioneer deck, jl subs and jl or fosgate amps.

You can ground to any metal part of the body. To make sure you have a good ground take some sandpaper and clean the metal.

You should check your wiring to your back speakers with a meter. Make sure that it isn't grounded anywhere by checking the wire to ground with the meter.

I used the seat bolt or what ever you want to call it. There should be two of these in the back cargo area.

Anyplace there is a bolt you can tighten. The closer to the amp or HU the better.
