Help with UCAs

My rig:
2018 SR5 prem, TRD wheels 265/70 R17 wildpeak tires (do not want to go bigger). Eibach Pro Truck lift kit.

Currently I am running the factory UCAs, my driving is 95% around town / highway. When I've taken it off road, it has been the "easy to moderately easy" stuff. All in all, the ride of the 4Runner is very good, better than when it was stock.

I am trying to decide if aftermarket UCAs would improve the ride "significantly" or would I be spending the money just to get "cool looking UCAs". After alignment camber was 2.8 degrees left and 2.9 degrees right. Seems to me the swapping out the UCAs may allow for more camber, but with the type of driving I do, I may never notice it.

I assume you're referring to caster. 2.8/2.9 is on the low end of what is considered acceptable oem spec for caster. A quality set of aftermarket UCAs would probably benefit you. My thinking, cry once and get it set up right. If you can get it close to 4.0 or upper 3's it will drive better on the highway for sure.

I just had mine aligned, set to 4.0 both left and right, with camber and toe set to the middle of the oem range. Prior to the alignment, my caster was around 2.7. You can get by with that, but I can attest that 4.0 is way better.

Well in my case JBA made a world of difference. Better caster (5.1), better performance (you will feel that as soon as you start to drive your truck), and better look. Definitely not a waste of money.

Help with UCA

So are you saying that you regret having arms because they get in the way of the tires? Did you notice if it affected your ride at all?

In my case, I already had a set of FN Wheels prior to putting my JBA arms on and I can say, that it made a world of difference in my driving. Prior to changing my arms, my truck would suddenly jolt one way or another when going over bumps in the road. Lane abutments, joints in the road, even small potholes would cause my truck to suddenly jump uncontrollably. The faster I went on the highway, the more the jump. I remember doing about 75 on the highway one time and came to a an overpass where the asphalt met the concrete on a bridge crossing and my truck moved almost a complete lane change. It scared me so much because if a car had been in the other lane, I knew that I would have hit it. I ordered my JBA control arms that evening. After changing the arms and getting 5.1 degrees of caster on both sides, I drove it on the highway and it was like a completely different truck. It now absorbed those bumps in the road and didn't want to jump around uncontrollably. I didn't change anything else at the time, only the arms. I couldn't believe the difference it made. My vote is to replace the arms to gain more control on the road due to the jumpiness of the OE arms.

For stock tire sizes, your not going to benefit from the wider range of camber, caster and toe. But with tires 285+, yes makes a big difference. Caster will be away from body mount Will be your main gain.

If you don't currently have an issue with alignment or clearance, then you are throwing your money down the drain with UCAs.

UCAs are used to bring alignment numbers within spec. If you current alignment is acceptable and you're happy with the way it drives, then why change it? What do you hope to gain with new UCAs?

UCAs are used to push caster a bit higher, which moves the wheel assembly forward providing clearance to the rear body mount. If you don't have a clearance problem (rub) currently, then why change it?

Keep you money and don't cry at all!
