Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 97 4Runner with the 2.7 and 110,000 miles on it and its starting to spring leaks. The rack an pinion is leaking the worst but that looks like the easy part so far. I've pinpointed 2 oil leaks at the rear main seal and the back passenger side of the oil pan. It also burns oil, seems to be mostly on the highway. As of right now it's my daily driver for the next few years but I plan on keeping it around for recreational use for... well, forever. My dilemma is a plan of attack, my mechanic says replace the rack and pinion and feed it oil til it dies and put in a new motor and tranny. A different tech told me to replace the main seal by way of removing the transmission. My gut says pull the engine, replace the rear main, the oil pan seal, and redo the gaskets and seals in the block while i have it out. I don't really know my way around this car yet and am looking for someone with some experience on the subject.
